My hubby has been expanding his cooking repertoire lately to help me out a bit more. In the past few months he has learned to make bread and does a mean dough that we turn into pizza crust, dinner rolls and of course, bread. He is getting pretty good, I must say. One of the items that we love to make as a family is homemade pizza because there is so much you can do with it. But, one thing that can be a issue though is sticky dough that is tough to get into a pan or in the oven. But I have a cool wooden kitchen peel that can help you and my hubby with a lot of the dough issues and transport issues too.
Superpeel is the name of this neat peel. A peel, for those of you that may not know, is that big flat board with a handle that you see pizza parlors use to move the pizza in and out of the ovens. But it works in many other applications too, like bakeries for moving bread and baguettes around. Sometimes they are called pizza paddles. Well, here is a fabulous one for your own kitchen!
I was sent the Maple Super Peel Gift Set to review for you all and this is unlike any other peel I have seen. It is a one piece large board with a nice handle and fits nicely in my hand. This is a solid piece of wood! On the upper part of the board is an opening. Included in the set are two strips of canvas and a canvas storage bag. Well, the concept is to thread the strip of canvas through the plastic holders that are included and then use that canvas to move the food off and on the peel. Pretty ingenious.
So with the sticky dough issue, you would just flour your dough and place it on the canvas pastry sheet on the peel to roll it out, knead it and make your pizza, bread loaf or whatever right on this canvas. Once it is done, you then pull the canvas strip so the dough just rolls right off onto your pan or oven rack, just like a conveyor belt. It is also great for moving sticky dough from one counter to another or whatever you need to move. Very cool!! And with 2 strips, you will always have at least one clean to use at any time.
The board does have the tapered edge so whatever you are picking up or sliding off will be easy to move. Of course, you do not have to use the canvas sheets to use this peel. It works well sliding your dough off as long as it has been floured on the bottom. Easy peasy!
Hubby loved playing with this new toy, that’s for sure! We really love the weight and the size of the board. We also love this this product is 100% Made in the USA! Love supporting home grown businesses!
