Back in January, my son and his girlfriend decided to attend their winter formal. Since this young lady is my son’s first “official” girlfriend and this was their official formal, everything had to be perfect. Luckily for the moms, they did decide early enough for us to start looking for the tuxedo and some pretty formal dresses that would match somewhat and yet still be unique from all of the other girls and guys that will be there.
The kids ended up looking so sweet together. They selected a color scheme in Black, White and Red and what a perfect combination for them. My son wore a black tuxedo with a lovely white shirt and a beautiful red and silver tie. His girl found a super sweet short prom dress that reminded everyone of Minny Mouse. It was black on the top and had red skirt with tiny white dots and a tulle underskirt. It was topped off with a darling bow at the waist. A lovely wrist corsage and boutonniere brought them together. Darling!
Now, prom is on the horizon and the search is on again for a beautiful prom dress that will look just right on her. Its funny as so many of the girls these days love the super tight form fitting dresses but not this young lady. She is all about a more traditional look. She looks for dresses that reflect her style and grace. I am thrilled that she is a part of my sons life.
Most girls wear a longer dress to prom than they do to a homecoming dance or a winter formal. I am not really sure why, but I think the longer dresses look so elegant. That is not to say that the short dresses are not elegant, I think most of them look nice too. I know when I was in high school we only had long dresses to choose from. The designers back then did not offer us much selection, sadly.
Today the selection of prom and formal dresses is so much more! I love that you can choose a gorgeous party dress and wear it to a formal dance and then wear it to a lovely dinner. It is no longer about wearing it once and then tossing it or donating it because it has been seen. Plus with the extensive options that are available now with the internet retailers, it is amazing at how many dresses can be found. You truly can find the perfect dress quickly and easily with much more selection than you can ever find locally.
Now that the kids are on the hunt again for “the perfect dress” I am sure that I will be hitting the tuxedo shop again soon to find the perfect suit to match. I love watching them grow up and have so much fun together!
