SunButter Sunflower Seed Spread

February 26, 2012 by Classystaff

SunButter Sunflower Sead SpreadToday, I would like to introduce you to an incredible product, SunButter®, a sunflower seed spread that is a delicious and healthy alternative to peanut butter. SunButter® products are made from specially roasted sunflower seeds. They are completely peanut-free, tree-nut free and gluten-free and therefore perfect for anyone with a peanut allergy.

My Review: I was sent two different products to review, 5 pouches of SunButter® Natural, and SunButter® Creamy in 2 convenient 1.5 ounce cups. We don’t have anyone with peanut allergies in my family, and both of my kids love peanut butter, but we are also sunflower seed lovers. I was especially curious to see how it would taste!

The first thing I noticed about the SunButter® was its consistency. Both products start out as a thick paste, but when mixed with the oils that naturally separate, each thinned out to spread just like peanut butter. First, I did a solo taste-test to see how it was all by itself, and was pleasantly surprised at how similar to peanut butter it was, yet at the same time there is the distinct, and for me, familiar flavor of the sunflower seeds. Really good!

My youngest is a huge peanutbutter eater, but not very open minded about trying new foods; therefore, I didn’t let on when I gave him his SunButter® sandwich over the weekend. Part way in he commented that something tasted different. When asked if it was a good, or a bad different, he said “A good different, I like it!” So, there you have it, a big thumbs up from the finickiest eater I know.

SunButter® is made of sunflower seeds grown here in the US, and being peanut, gluten, and tree-nut free means no adverse allergy reactions. Nutritionally, SunButter® contains one-third less saturated fat than peanut butter and 27 percent of a day’s recommended allowance of vitamin E in one serving, and has no trans fats. Plus, SunButter® products have a much higher iron and fiber content than peanut butter and are a great source of protein. Great for anyone with dietary restrictions, or someone who is just looking for a healthier alternative. We enjoyed sunButter on toast and in sandwiches. It is the perfect compliment to fruit, jams, jellies but can be used in a variety of delicious peanut-free recipes, like the ones on the SunButter® website.

SunButter® is available at local retailers in both the US and Canada, or in their online store. They offer a variety of SunButter types including the two they sent me which are both portable and perfect for packing in school lunches. There is also SunButter® in Organic Unsweetened, Creamy, Crunchy or with Omega-3.

I would like to thank SunButter® for sending me their Creamy and Natural products to review. My family and I love them!
