Octavin Home Wine Bar R. Muller Rabbit Riesling

octavin home wine barI have been put in a terrible position. I was asked to do a review on some new wine for you all and I just had to break down and do it. *sigh* I know.. I Know.. I have a tough job. But I also know that this company has a great concept in wine. Artisan Wine in a Box! Now don’t get scared, get happy!

OctavinHomeWineBar is the site to find this cool line of wine in a box known as Octavin. Octavin has created a unique item for housing our favorite wines. It is a fresh approach to artisan wine. Octavin Home Wine Bar’s patented premium wine cask (PWC) package design prevents oxidation. This unique package design ensures that every glass tastes as fresh and flavorful as the first glass when it was opened and it will be fresh for up to six weeks in the cask. It’s the perfect choice for those interested in just one glass with dinner.

You all know that wine is a box is decent table wine and works great for cooking and such but it is not the top quality wines that you would associate with a small vintner or artisan wine company… That is until now. The wine cask allows the interior bag to be sealed air tight so you can purchase superior quality wine in bulk and enjoy it longer than buying one bottle at a time.

Octavin Home Wine Bar’s PWC innovative design also allows them to invest in making great wine, not expensive packaging. By eliminating heavy glass and expensive cork and closures, the cost of packaging and shipping is reduced and those savings to you are passed on to you. While each PWC contains the equivalent of four standard bottles of distinctive artisan wine, you often end up paying the price of just three bottles. That’s a nice savings!

The wine I want to tell you about today is from Winemaker Peter Griebeler. He crafts the R. Müller Rabbit Riesling (aka ‘The Bunny Wine’) from grapes grown in the Landwein Rhein region of Germany. I am half German and my mother drank German wine when she could find it and my favorite wines are from Germany so I was so excited to try this. One sniff and I knew that I had found a fabulous wine that I will enjoy every day. Delightfully fruity and just my style.

The taste is very light and crisp. You get the fruit flavor of the grapes but because it is fermented in stainless steel, you do not have any of the heavy wood cask flavors which is nice. This is a perfect wine for a light afternoon lunch or if you want to pair it with some fruit for after dinner. It would be fabulous with seafood and delicate dishes where you do not want anything over powering the lightness of the food.

I love this wine! I have not checked out whether this is available in my dinky town yet, but I know that this is one wine that will be in my home always so I can enjoy a glass whenever I want and not have to worry about whether it is spoiling being left in a open container. I am in love with the packaging the Octavin offers. It is unique and smart. Saving money on artisan wine is a fabulous idea and who wouldn’t love it? The packaging doesn’t make a wine great, the grape and vintner does. Trust me, I am not a wine snob so I am loving this selection of R. Muller Rabbit Riesling Wine from Octavin. I could drink it all day, it is that delicious to me! And for an amazing price of around $24 for 3 liters, I can afford to drink it all day too!
