Zevia All-Natural Soda
I would like to introduce you to Zevia, a soda company whose product is made with the all-natural sweetener, Stevia, which is a little green plant from the sunflower family and originally native to South America. The stevia leaf is up to 300x sweeter than sugar but has no caloric value or effect on blood sugar levels. Therefore, Zevia is a healthier diet soda, with no sugars, artificial sweeteners or colors, zero or very low sodium, and zero calories! Other things missing from this soda? There are no carbs, and it’s MSG and Gluten-free! Zevia all natural soda is full of flavor though, using only the best ingredients.
My Review: I would like to offer my review of Zevia’s Grapefruit Citrus flavor for all of you today. First, let me tell you that I am a regular diet soda drinker, and also like to drink other citrus flavored sodas, especially grapefruit. However, I had never tried anything sweetened with Stevia. So, I was excited to receive the 6-pack of Zevia Grapefruit Citrus diet soda. I put it straight into the refrigerator, and had to patiently wait until the next morning to pop open a can.
My very first impression upon tasting Zevia for the first time was “Wow! That’s a lot sweeter than I expected, but in a good way.” There is a definite citrus/ruby red grapefruit flavor though that gives me the slightly crisp after-taste I look for in a citrus flavored soda. It’s as if someone took the flavor of ruby-red grapefruit sprinkled with sugar and made a soda out of it. The Stevia sweetens the soda just as well as sugar, yet doesn’t have that “artificial sweetener” taste that some diet sodas have.
The first couple of Zevia’s I had, I drank straight from the can, but then got curious as to the soda’s coloring. I half expected it might be slightly pink, but as you can see in the picture, it’s similar in color to other grapefruit sodas. This grapefruit citrus flavor is caffeine free, as are 9 of the 12 Zevia flavors. For me, it’s the perfect beverage to reach for after dinner, with no worries of being kept awake later.
Because Zevia is sweetened with Stevia, this diet soda does not affect blood glucose or insulin levels; therefore, it is safe for those with diabetes, and the American Pregnancy Association has approved Stevia as a safe ingredient for use during pregnancy. You can read more about Stevia on the Zevia website. Lastly, all Zevia products are certified Kosher by the Orthodox Union.
Thank you to Zevia for sending me a 6 pack of their Grapefruit Citrus All-Natural Soda to review for all of you. I’m happy to know that it’s sold at a store near me, and can’t wait to try some other flavors!
