My dad worked for years and years on the genealogy for our family. He researched his heart out. It was a very cool project and he was able to trace ancestors back for hundreds of years on several lines of the family.
In several places he did get stuck, after all you are scanning through old bibles and handwritten records trying to piece together family names at a time when many people changed their sir names and everyone was named Catherine or John.
One of the fun things that we learned was that even though my dad’s side of the family was originally thought to be all Norwegian and Swedish, we did have a lot of Irish in our line from the 900’s and earlier. I would actually be an Irish princess, if they still had royalty. HAHA And I married an partial Irishman too, just to cement it.
I do enjoy the Irish culture and most definitely the fabulous arts and crafts that are created by local artisans. My favorite is the amazing celtic jewelry that is so beautiful with amazing quality pieces for you to wear a lifetime and pass down to your family.
On my wish list for my hubby and myself is a trip to Ireland so we can enjoy the land and get to know the culture in depth even more. Hubby would love to meet some of this family that still lives there too. Sounds like a dream vacation!
