Shiva Rea: More Daily Energy Yoga Dvd

It’s been a few years since I took a yoga class. Come to think of it it’s been over 5 years because it was during my internship at the YMCA.  I really enjoy yoga. It forces me to chill out. Something I don’t do well on my own. I don’t take the time to relax. I always feel as if I need to be “doing” something. Yoga fulfills that need to do something while also creating the space in my head that I can detach from daily activity.

I’ve been wanting to go to the classes at my gym but they are at inconvenient times for me. I’m so not getting up at 4:50am to go to class like my crazy hubby does sometimes. Now that I have Shiva Rea’s More Daily Energy: Vinyasa Flow Yoga dvd I will no longer have to worry about it. I have a world-class yoga instructor in my own home.

The thing about yoga is how personal it is. Everyone is at varying levels and many people feel intimidated that they won’t be “good enough” and look stupid in a group class. Shiva Rea is a very good instructor and I felt encouraged by her teaching. She explained how to do the basic moves and then tells you to stay at those basic moves for as long as you feel comfortable. Even saying on some of them that it could be a very long time before you are comfortable enough to move into a more advanced pose. But as she is showing the more advanced positions it’s not intimidating, in fact it’s darn encouraging. She is so smooth in her movements that I can’t help thinking, “I wanna do that too!”

I decided I wanted to create my own matrix as I just went in order on the menu. I chose opening meditation, foundation sahaja and ending with shavasana which is recommended you always end with. Shavasana is the deep relaxation you do at the end of yoga for those that may never have taken a class before.  After finishing the foundation sahaja, I found I wanted to do another 20 minute routine because I really wanted to test where my balance is currently.  I hit menu on my remote and went back to the yoga matrix. There I just hit clear selections and chose the evolution standing balance routine and the shavasana. Clicking play sent me right into the mix of it so I could keep going with a more active 20 minute balance routine.

But there is no reason to create your own matrix unless you have certain routines on the dvd that you find you like better. There are 6 pre-set practices that you can choose from that will give you a 47-58 minute routine. These will give you a nice balanced routine without any thought needing to be put into it.

I recommend More Daily Energy: Vinyasa Flow Yoga dvdfor beginners to more advanced. If you are totally new to yoga, this is a great one to get started with. She’s really good at explaining things as you go. Such as the fact that yoga is not like a typical cardio routine, there isn’t so much a “right and wrong” way to do it. It’s about your breathing and letting go. I promise as you learn the moves and some of the names you’ll become smoother in your movements quickly and feel great with new poses you can do.
