Natural Earth’s Berries Soap Nuts

Earth's Berries Soap NutsI would like to introduce you to the company Earth’s Berries, owned by Karen Salcedo, who sells Soap Nuts. Karen has been using eco-friendly laundry detergent and cleaning supplies for 20 years and has always found that the main reason people don’t choose this option is simply because they think it is too expensive. Earth’s Berries Soap Nuts are a natural, organic, environment AND budget friendly alternative for soap, detergent and other chemicals. Soap nuts aren’t technically nuts. They’re fruit, taken from the soapberry tree (Sapindus mukorrosi), dried and used throughout the world as cleaning agents.

My Review: I would like to offer my review of Earth’s Berries Soap Nuts for all of you today. I was provided a 250g bag of Soap Nuts along with 4 wash bags. I was sort of surprised at first by their appearance. They look similar to the lychee nut, yet they’re not grown for consumption. They are somewhat sticky in nature, and the soap nut shells contain saponin (a natural detergent) that, when they come in contact with water, make mild suds.

The first thing I did with the soap nuts was to use the them in their most popular use, as a laundry detergent. I put 4 soap nuts in one of the laundry bags, and was able to get 3 loads of laundry out of those 4 soap nuts! I knew I could do another load, but decided to add one more to the bag, and I did a load of whites, in hot water. Wow! For those who are wondering about the suds, I took a picture (before the Rinse cycle) of our laundry tub. I was impressed by the low amount of suds, but also by how dirty the water was.

From what I’ve read on the Earth Berries Soap Nuts website, you can reuse the same soap nuts 3-4 times before discarding the shells to your compost pile or garden. Love that – good for the environment, and good for the budget!

Soap nuts can also be used in a number of different ways: You can boil them to create a liquid laundry detergent, a steam-cleaning spot treatment, or an all purpose cleaner. For those with allergies, soap nuts are also ideal. As a hypoallergenic product, they can be used for most any purpose, from laundry to cleaning the windows. The Earth’s Berries Soap Nuts website offers recipes for the various uses for Soap Nuts. These little gems can replace a bunch of different chemical products, saving you the exposure to harmful chemicals, and the expense of buying a bunch of different cleansers.

You can purchase Earth’ Berries Soap Nuts directly from the store on their website. They come in 250g, 500g or 1kg. sized bags, and retail from $10.00-$30.00. Each bag comes with the small wash bags that are themselves reusable. For more information about all of the uses for Earth’s Berries Soap Nuts, visit their website. Honestly, I am amazed, and looking forward to all of the ways I can use my supply of soap nuts.

Thank you to Earth’s Berries for sending me their Soap Nuts to review for all of you. I am officially nuts about soap nuts!
