I love the fall season mostly because I can get back into my kitchen again to cook and bake in comfort! During the last month of summer I usually avoid the kitchen as much as humanly possible!
Today I thought I would share with all of our blog readers my recipe for making homemade candy apples! ‘Tis the apple season! My family loves candy apples during the month of October so I hope you enjoy the recipe.
Homemade Candy Apples Recipe
6 large red apples
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3/4 cup water
red food coloring
Wash and dry your apples. You want to use ONLY apples that have no blemishes. Insert wooden sticks into the stem end on each apple. In a large saucepan combine together the granulated sugar, corn syrup and water. Cook mixture slowly over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Add several drops of food coloring to the mixture so that it turns a bright red. Continue to cook mixture slowly until it reaches 300 degrees F (use a candy thermometer). Once it has reached temeperature remove the pan from the heat. Dip and twirl apples in the candy mixture and then place them on wax paper or a silicone lined baking mat to harden. Once hard store them in an airtight container or wrap in plastic wrap.
They will keep for up to 3-4 days if you use apples that are not overly ripe! We hope you enjoyed this new recipe!
