Pernigotti Italian Cocoa from ChefShop

August 14, 2011 by Shelly

Today I would like to introduce you to the fabulous online gourmet shop called ChefShop where you can find a large variety of gourmet cooking and baking ingredients like Balsamic Vinagers, Gourmet Chocolates, Chutneys, Dessert Sauces, various Grains, Jams & Jellies, various Fruits & Veggies, various Beverages and so much more! I could browse this site for days on end just discovering new products that they carry.

My Review: The generous folks over at ChefShop  sent me a bag of their Pernigotti Italian Cocoa to review for all of you. This gourmet cocoa powder is made with just 2 ingredients: cocoa and vanilla. This is a dark, unsweetened cocoa powder with an intense & immediate chocolate flavor. This wonderful cocoa is Dutch processed and has a touch of ground vanilla bean.

I decided to make a batch of no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies using my new Pernigotti Italian Cocoa and as soon as I opened the bag…I immediately smelled the delicious cocoa fragrance. YUMMY!!! I got busy making my cookies and the hardest part was waiting for them to firm up so I could taste them. I make this no-bake cookie recipe about every 5-6 weeks for family so we were looking forward to tasting them now that I used gourmet cocoa and not cheap grocery store cocoa.

An hour after I made them, they were ready. I called the family into the kitchen and everyone grabbed a few cookies. I have made this recipe for years but never used gourmet cocoa and WOW…what a huge difference! The chocolate taste in my cookies was bumped up 100% and the tasted magnificent. I never realized that by using a better quality chocolate how much better my baking can be!

The following morning I used the same cocoa to make my family some hot chocolate to go along with our breakfast and I used 1 teaspoon of this cocoa along with 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar and 1 cup of milk and cooked the mixture (stovetop) for 2 1/2 minutes so that everything was dissolved and very warm. Oh my gosh…this was one of the best mugs of hot cocoa I have ever had! That store bought stuff in the packets doesn’t even come close to how fabulous this was!

Purchasing Info: You can purchase a 2.2 lb. bag of the Pernigotti Italian Cocoa from ChefShop for only $21.50 and I know when I run out.

I have never heard of Pernigotti ItalianCocoa, but I do know that high quality cocoa can make a difference in any drink or recipe. The ChefShop.com usually has very high quality products.
