Produce is a big chunk of my grocery bill each week so I get really frustrated when it spoils quickly. I have heard a lot about the green produce storage bags that have been hitting the market and I was pleased to be contacted about doing a review for the bags made by Clearly Fresh.
The bags have the patented Breatheway membrane and they way its works is there is a hole behind the logo on the bag which acts as a passage way to let oxygen in and carbon dioxide out. This creates an ideal environment for your fresh produce and slows the ripening and spoilage process. It can’t prevent it, but it does slow the aging process down.
I was sent a set of the 1.25 gallon storage bags to review. My family eats a lot of lettuce and salad so I buy my lettuce in bulk. So I thought that these bags would be the perfect solution to my utter frustration of spoiled produce on a daily basis. I like that the bags are really large. They are bigger than the 1 gallon standard size you can get elsewhere. They have a write on section so you know when something was placed in the bag and they work both in the refrigerator and out of it too. On the website is a guide as to what should be stored in the fridge or on the counter for best results.

I bought a large bag of the pre mixed salad and placed most of it (didn’t want to waste more $$) in the Clearly Fresh Produce Bags and the rest I left in the breathable bag it comes in from the grower. I didn’t even have to do the 10 day test as lettuce never lasts more than a few days anyway, but after 5 days the portion that was left in the grower bag was gross and changing colors and just disgusting. The salad that is in the green produce bag is fresh and crispy still and we are having it with dinner tonight!
It is nice to see that these bags really do work. I have seen some infomercials and just wasn’t sure, but I am happy about how they worked for me and my produce. I plan on keeping these bags in my house at all times. No more throwing money out the door on spoiled food for me and my family!
