Today I have a wonderful company to introduce you to called Oberon Design. This company makes all of their leather and pewter products in Santa Rosa, California and they have been in business since the 1970’s. The company built their reputation making refillable journal covers that are made out of hand tooled leather. The company does not carry inventory and each of their journal covers are handmade ‘to order’. Their leather is custom tanned for them in the good old USA. The boutique tannery they work with produces natural, drum dyed, unpainted leather for them that works well with their tooling and embossing work. The leather dyes that they use are produced in the USA and Britain and are considered much safer than those produced in Asia.
The Oberon Design pewter products are hand cast in their studio shop in Santa Rosa and they use only the purest, lead-free, food grade Britannia pewter. This pewter can be cast at very high temperatures that result in a low tarnish, high polish finish. Oberon Design carves their own molds and cast their own products in small batches of 6-12 pieces at a time which insures quality. Everything about this company is super impressive!
My Review: The generous folks over at Oberon Design sent me some more pewter jewelry to review for all of you! This particular set has 3 matching pieces…a hair barrette, a necklace and a pair of earrings in their beautiful Leaf design. First up…the Leaf pewter necklace which has a genuine leather adjustable cord. The beautiful leaf pendant is made out of lead-free pure pewter and was hand cast by expert artisans in the Oberon Design shop. What I love about this leaf pendant is that you can actually see the “veins” which gives you a realistic appearance. I like the size on this pendant which is 1″ wide by 1 1/4″ tall. I think it’s a great unisex piece and you can purchase it for $27.50. Once it arrived I knew this necklace was going to go to my husband as he loves “earthy” style jewelry and it’s just perfect for him. It is a great piece for him to wear every day and it can be worn casually or semi-casually.
Next up…the new Leaf Pewter Earrings! Even though my hubby has been wearing the necklace, I know I can borrow it from him at any time and I do plan on borrowing it so I can wear these beautiful matching earrings with it. The earrings measure a little bit over a 1/2″ by 1″ long and are made from lead-free pure pewter. The comfortable earwires are nickel-free. I love the shape of these earrings and they are very light-weight and comfortable to wear. These are great for the person who loves the outdoors or just for the person who wants a seasonal earring come fall time.
Finally…we have the matching Leaf hair barrette or hair clip…however you would like to say it. This hair barrette measures 70mm in size so it’s a nice medium-sized piece. It is made from lead-free pure pewter and the clip itself is made from steel. I love that this barrette has 4 leaves in a horizontal row and it is really a gorgeous piece! Again…this can be worn all year long or just during the fall season. My daughter wore this to work a few days ago and she has thick, long, curly hair and she told me it was super comfortable to wear and that it didn’t catch or pull on her hair. She loves it!
Overall Impression: We love this New Leaf Design that Oberon Design has! It’s a great design for those who love the outdoors or for the gal who loves to change their jewelry up when the season’s change.
