Today I am reviewing for all of you the Out of the Box game called Word on the Street Junior Edition made for ages 8 and up and it takes 2-8 players to play the game. Here is some information about the game. Word on the Street Junior brings the excitement of Word on the Street to the entire family. Each turn, one team flips over a category card and team members quickly brainstorm words that fit the category. The team agrees on a word before the time runs out (hourglass timer) and then pulls each letter in that word one lane closer to their side of the street. The first team to pull eight letters off the street wins! Doesn’t that sound fun? Yup it does and it is fun!
I invited my nephews over for an afternoon play date with us so that we could sit down and try out this game with them. They are ages 8, 11 and 13 years of age. I popped us some popcorn, got us some beverages and we all sat down to play the game. Since we had an odd amount of players I sat out and supervised the game playing as my hubby teamed up with the 8 year old and they played against the 11 and 13 year old. What I really love about this game is that the directions on how to play it is simple and easy to understand so in my opinion…kids really don’t need supervision by an adult to play it…older kids will do just fine on their own. Each team took their turn in flipping over a category card and then brainstormed to come up with words to fit within that category…before the time ran out…they selected their chosen word. They then moved the letters for that word over to their side of the street and the next team took their turn. The first team to pull 8 letters off the street to their side of the street wins the game and in this case…my 11 year old and 13 year old nephews won! It took about 30 minutes to play the game and once game one was done…they played it a second time and the same team won again! The boys had a fabulous time playing this game with my husband and totally enjoyed themselves.
We really love this game! It is easy to play and it’s a game that doesn’t take hours upon hours to play like some other games. It is a fabulous family game that even the adults will enjoy. We give the game a huge two thumbs up! It really is a MUST HAVE board games for those of you with older children as it helps them with their vocabulary development, creative thinking and the value of teamwork.
