Book Review – Fourth Sunday by B.W. Read
A lazy Sunday is a great time to read and this a great book to read on a lazy day. FOURTH SUNDAY (Strebor/Atria Books; May 2011; 1-59309-358-7; $12.00) written by B.W. Read (aka “Because We Read”) is the tale of seven women and their journey towards friendship by way of a simple book club. Over time, their friendship grows beyond books, as their lives, relationships, careers, and families become one. The core group of women—Gwen, Natalie, Allana, Brianna, Camille, Destiny, and Adriane—shares not only their love of books at these monthly meetings but their life experiences as well. Over two years, the women undergo a number of trials within their own lives as they confront divorce, illness, romantic highs and lows, sexual experimentation, and career challenges. Throughout the good times and bad times, their book club family provides support, encouragement, laughter, and love.
Written by six women of a real-life book club – B.W. Read (aka “Because We Read”),who no longer wanted to read about characters they could not identify with, FOURTH SUNDAY is the answer for the everyday woman. FOURTH SUNDAY is timeless cosmopolitan literature. The novel incorporates intellect and riveting facts about medical, political and small business state of affairs while balancing playfulness and sensuality. It is funny, it is sad, it is contemporary, but most of all it is real.
The Review:
I love picking up a book and being able to identify with the characters. This book is one of those. You can snuggle down in a big chair and get absorbed into the stories of these seven women. The ups and downs of their lives: careers, love life, divorce, college and more. It is a true to life story where you can identify with these ladies and become one of them. You feel what they feel and embrace their challenges and celebrations. I like that.
Even though this book is written by six different women, the story flows well. It is written in parts… each character is featured in several chapters at a time and tells their story line as they experience it. It is unique and as the story delves into the past and then back into today and the flows into the rest of the storyline.
This is a great lazy day summertime read. If you are looking for a great book to throw in your beachbag or take with you on vacation, grab a copy of FOURTH SUNDAY and enjoy! It is in stores May 2011.
