Moonjar Money Box and Money Game
As parents and grandparents it is our responsibility to teach our children and grandchildren financial responsibility and this teaching should begin early in life. Children at a young age can grasp the concept of saving money, spending money and donating money to a needy cause if parents sit down to talk to them about it and provide the tools to our children that they can use to instill these great values. With that said, I have a great company to introduce you to today called Moonjar and this fabulous company can help us all teach our children about the value of money.
Moonjar Moneyboxes help to teach a child to save, spend and share money with their ingenious concept of these moneyboxes. These wonderful products have won awards so you know they are good and they are so much better than the standard ceramic piggy bank.
My Review: The Classic Moonjar Moneybox retails for $25.00 and is actually three separate tin saving banks with acrylic lids. Each lid has a coin slot for your child to place his/her money in. Each tin bank is labeled so there is no confusion. One is labeled “Spend”, one is “Share” and the final one is “Save”. They measure 5 1/2″ by 5″ in size. Each Moonjar Money Box comes with a family guide and a passbook so you and your child can track deposits and withdraws from the moneybox. We sat down with our grand daughter and our 2 nephews (ages 10 and 13) and discussed money with them. Our grand daughter was too young to understand so we really concentrated our discussion with our 2 nephews. They had a bunch of questions for us and we used the guide that came along with the moneybox as our guide when talking with them. We decided that after our talk to let our nephews take home the moneybox and they are going to share it and my brother and sister-in-law are going to guide the boys on how to use it. To get them started…my husband gave them a pile of coins which they happily deposited the equal amount into all 3 of the banks.
We also received the Conversations To Go: The Game That Questions Money which retails for $16.00. This game comes in a cute take-out foodie box and inside are little slips of paper that are filled with questions about wealth, thrift and luck. When we got this “game” out we all sat at the table (4 adults and 3 children) and we took turns reading the questions and discussing our answers. It was funny to see what the kid’s answers were and we realized that my 2 nephews really didn’t have any concept about saving money or how money was earned etc. It was a big eye opener for my brother and sister-in-law. After spending an hour doing this we called it a day and they took home their goodies. A few days later my sister in-law called me to thank me for this educational experience. She has put both boys onto an allowance now and they are depositing their coins into the appropriate bank!
Overall Impression: In my honest and unbiased opinion, I feel that every home should have one of these Moonjar Moneyboxes. It is a fabulous tool to teach our children (and even teach us adults) about saving money, spending money and sharing our money. The products are extremely well-made, colorful to look at and we well thought out. Personally, these tools are so much better than just a regular old piggy bank! I give these products a huge 2 grandma thumbs up!!!
