Art Supplies Direct is a fabulous online web site for those who are interested in learning to paint or for those who currently paint…so they have supplies for both the beginner artist and the most experienced artist. Art Supplies Direct carries complete art painting kits, various artist supplies including paints, paper, easels, canvas boards, professional paint brushes and various other art supplies. They have one of the largest online selections I have ever seen! Their web site is easy to use and you can easily find what you are looking for…I could spend hours upon hours browsing and shopping their wonderful online shopping web site.
My Product Review: The generous folks over at Art Supplies Direct sent me their Scheewe Deluxe Watercolors Set with instructional DVD to try out. First of all I would like to state that I am not an artist and have never tried painting before! As someone who is chronically ill, I have always wanted to try my hand at painting as I heard that art therapy is a great way to relax and can be beneficial to those with medical problems…hence my personal interest in learning how to do watercolors. I was really excited to get this particular set because it is great for beginners who have no watercolor experience and everything that you will need is included within the kit. It comes with this wonderful 2 hour instructional DVD that I watched twice before I got up the nerve to try to paint one of the 2 patterns/designs that are included in the kit. The instructional printed material in the kit is printed in English, French & Spanish and the kit is made here in the good old USA!!!
The 2 patterns in the kit are for a beautiful flower or for a ocean/sea picture…you can transfer the patterns onto the included watercolor paper or transfer them onto the 2 included blank watercolor greeting cards. I decided to try my hand at the ocean/sea picture since I am an avid beach/ocean lover. I read the manual and transferred the design following the instructions onto the watercolor paper. I found this very easy to do following the step by step printed directions. This step took me about 20-25 minutes as I took my time. After I was done transferring the pattern, I read the instructions again so that I could understand the techniques of applying the water & watercolors to my paper…again…step by step easy instructions are printed for you right in the manual and if in doubt, you can pop in your instructional DVD and watch it over and over until you feel comfortable with the process. I found both the instructional DVD and the printed manual to be fabulous and I love that both of the designs are largely printed on the kit box so that you can refer to the picture often to help guide you.
Since I just spent several weeks in the hospital with a long illness, I am enjoying using this watercolor kit. Everything you need to complete 2 watercolor paintings and 2 watercolor greeting cards are included and I mean everything but the water & paper towels! I have now been working on my first watercolor painting for 3 days now and I can’t wait to get it completed in a few more days! (will share photo once I complete the project I am working on).
Overall Impression: This is a fabulous complete watercolor painting kit for beginners but it can also be given as a gift to a more experienced painter too! It is extremely reasonably priced at $71.05 which if you purchased all of the items separately at a retail store it would certainly cost you a lot more. I found the instructional DVD to be of high quality and easy to follow along. I love the printed manual too…everything is laid out for you in step by step directions. All of the materials contained within the kit are high quality…from the paints, to the paper and the paint brushes are absolutely fabulous! I think this complete watercolor kit is a great gift for anyone….I could see a teenager to a senior citizen using this kit and if you are wanting to learn watercolor painting…this kit is a great first step! I highly recommend that you check out all of the wonderful art supply kits, supplies and products that Art Supplies Direct offers. This was a great company to work with and I plan on purchasing some supplies from them in a few months after I complete my 2 watercolor paintings & 2 greeting cards that are in this kit. I look forward to exploring this new art/craft avenue in my life and this was an absolute great experience!
