i have a very site to tell you about today. Tonya White is the owner of an Etsy site called Variya. Tonya makes specialized jewelry for those with metal allergies. Here is her story.
“I started making jewelry for myself when I developed a metal allergy and couldn’t find cool stuff that I could wear, then I began creating jewelry as gifts for family and friends. My sister-in-law insisted for a couple years that I try to sell my designs, which I was a little apprehensive about because I didn’t know where to begin. When I found Etsy and decided why not – they make it so easy! I decided that I wanted to create in a style that was hip, edgy and unique, and I used my middle name, Variya, because I thought it really embodied that – my Dad created that for me.
A large portion of my work is one of a kind, because I really enjoy creating new designs, which is also why I love to do custom work. I describe my style as vintage-mod, and I specialize in custom work. It is invigorating to create the perfect design for a wedding and see how happy a bride is to have the jewelry she dreamed of for her perfect day. I also love creating a custom piece for a birthday surprise, or any special occasion – it’s so rewarding!
I opened my Titanium Collection by Variya after I tried the metal myself and found that I was able to wear earrings again after 8 years. It is so much fun, like a whole new world of fashion opened up! I use only certified medical grade 1 pure Titanium, so my customers can rest assured it is the best and they are not likely to have reactions. If someone does find that their ears are too sensitive for Titanium, I suggest my Niobium earrings alternatively. Niobium is a fairly rare, elemental metal, somewhat new to jewelry. It is a non allergenic metal, and extremely comfortable. My Niobium earrings are also pure, with no alloy. It is extremely rare that someone reacts to both metals. The Review
I was very intrigued when I first talked with Tonya. I have had metal allergies since I had my son and have a hard time wearing earrings for long periods of time. She sent me a pair of earrings called the Niobium Swirl – Niobium Golden Stud Earrings from her Niobium Collection. They came very quickly after Tonya made them. They are sweet, little stud earrings about 5mm across and they are created all one piece. I have been wearing them for a day and so far so good. I had a little itching but not like I normally do. This is huge!
Between the Titanium Collection and the Niobium Collection, she creates earrings and necklaces as well as any custom pieces you are looking for. For the Holiday Season, she has created the most awesome Bracelet called Life Story Bracelet by Variya. A beautiful piece.
I really love the work that Tonya has created with her Etsy site and her jewelry. She has created totally unique pieces that you won’t see anywhere else. I love that she has taken something personal and an issue with her and solved the probelm, not only for her, but for others as well. I know that you will love her site and her jewlery at Variya.
