From My Mama’s Kitchen by Johnny Tan

I have been so lucky to be selected to review this book. Food for the soul, recipes for living is the subtitle and this truly encompasses so much about what this book is about.

I agreed to do this review thinking it was a recipe and history book of some sort; a dedication to the author’s moms. From My Mama’s Kitchen is so much more than that.

The author, Johnny Tan crossed paths with 9 remarkable women he admiringly refers to as “Mom”. Starting with his adopted Mom and later while traveling to the United States to attend college and living in the US after school, he met 8 others who have impacted his life.

From My Mama’s Kitchen – “food for the soul, recipes for living”, was originally intended as that cookbook I thought it was; to preserve Tan’s moms’ recipes. But as he was working on it, it became a heartfelt book honoring these 9 women and the various significant roles they played in his daily life. Johnny grew up in a house where everything happened in the kitchen and Mama was in charge and he learned to cook with Mama. With the learning of recipes came the lessons of life, success, dedication, wisdom, compassion and motherly love that you can only get from Mama. As he great older and moved away, Johnny met 8 other women who greatly influenced his life with their insight, advise and encouragement.

I was thoroughly impressed at the depth of Johnny Tan’s lessons that he learned from these women. It had me looking back into my own life wishing I had written down all of the insight my mom had passed on to me and even wondering if I have done a sufficient job passing on things to my own son.

From My Mama’s Kitchen – “food for the soul, recipes for living” is a wonderful keepsake book about motherly love. It is a tribute to acknowledge and honor moms all over the world for their spiritual and inspirational contribution in making a positive difference in the lives of their children and their loved ones. I hope that you will put it on your reading list. Not heavy, not overly long, it is a great book! Available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Johnny Tan has also expanded his dedication to his Mama’s by adding a Weekly Talk Show. From My Mama’s Kitchen Talk Radio Show (FMMK Talk Radio Show) is hosted by author and motivational speaker, Johnny Tan on Blog Talk Radio every Tuesday morning from 10.00 am – 11.00 am U.S. CDT . He focuses on making a positive difference in the lives of its listeners by sharing “Recipes For Living” from his new book and honoring mothers everywhere for their unconditional motherly love for their loved ones. The show also serves as a resource center for women and mothers everywhere by bringing inspirational, spiritual and motivational stories from his special guests of ordinary people especially mothers doing extraordinary things.
