Today I would like to introduce you to the company called Learning Resources who makes a wide variety of educational toys and games for children. When you visit the Learning Resources web site…you can shop as a Parent or as a Teacher. Furthermore, you can shop by age group, category, by brand or by subject. I love how user-friendly the Learning Resources site is!

You will find activity sets & books, construction sets, active learning & play sets, discovery & exploration sets, electronic toys, games, puzzles, water & sand toys and a whole lot more! Everything on their site is extremely well-made and affordable.

My Review: The great folks over at Learning Resources sent us their Circles & Stripes Magnetic Frames Set to review for all of you. My 3 year old grand-wee-one loves playing with magnets and always rearranges things on my refrigerator every time she is here. Besides that, I love displaying photos and kid’s art on my refrigerator so I was super excited to get this set into my home to try out for all of you.

The set includes 8 magnetic frames and 8 magnets for a total of 16 pieces. You can use them at home on your refrigerator or if you are a teacher you can use them in the classroom for highlighting words, framing cards or pictures or to recognize the student of the week. They can be used in many different ways and will stick to any magnetic surface.

I took them all out of the package and snapped them apart. I then left my grand-wee-one help me redecorate my refrigerator with them. They are super thin and light-weight but have great magnetic sticking power. They brightly colored so they really appeal to small children. She had a blast arranging them on my refrigerator with me and now every time she comes to my home she rearranges them all again! We just love them!

As part of our big “Fun in the Summer Sun” blog event we wanted to have a few items for the kids this summer. Today’s company is called HandTrux Toys who is a brand new toy company producing American-Made toys!

The company sent us their HANDTRUX Backhoe to review for all of you. This great kid-powered toy can be used in the sand or in the dirt. It is perfect for the beach, lake or the backyard! It is made for ages 5 and up but I feel that younger kids could play with it if there is strong adult supervision.

Instructions for Use: Your child’s hand goes inside the sleeve to grab a hold of the Handraulic lever that is inside the bucket. As your child’s hand moves up and down, the bucket will move up and down too! Gotta love hand-powered toys!

The HANDTRUX Backhoe is made out of durable hard plastic but is fairly light-weight. We gave this to my 3 year old grand-wee-one who has a sandbox and loves toys that she can use in her sandbox. However, once it arrived we were getting hit with 12 straight days of rain so her sandbox was flooded and needed to spend a few weeks to dry out again.

With that said, I left her play with the HANDTRUX Backhoe indoors and after a few tries, she really got the hang of it. We placed checkers, marbles, building blocks, etc. all over the floor and she used her new HANDTRUX Backhoe to pick them up. She played for hours upon hours doing this. To keep things interesting, we just kept changing the little objects around for her to pick up using the backhoe. Fun, fun, fun!

My Review: The great folks over at AJJ Cornhole sent us one of their tabletop cornhole sets to review for all of you. The one that I received for the review is called Navy Blue Pyramid Tabletop Cornhole Set and let me tell you, hubby and the kids have been having a blast with it since it arrived.

The wooden game boards are painted a pretty navy blue and white and each game board measures 5″ wide by 10″ in length. The little bags that you toss come with the game too and they measure 1″ by 1″ in size. The set comes with 2 wooden cornhole game boards and 8 of the little bags (4 in white and 4 in navy). The set also includes scorecards, playing instructions and a carry all bag to store it in. The entire set comes nicely packaged in a box and is fully assembled.

I can remember playing cornhole when I was a kid and my hubby grew up playing it too. We were super excited to get this set and play it with the kids. What is really nice about this tabletop version is that it can be played indoors, outdoors or take it with you on vacation too! A great way to keep the kids occupied this summer or while traveling.

Game Rules: Place the game boards 1 to 3 feet apart (according to age and skill level). Team partners face each other from opposite boards. Play can start from either board (we flipped a coin to see who goes first). Each team plays with a set of 4 bags. Opponents alternate tosses until all 8 bags are played. The round is then scored. Repeat the play from the other board. The scoring team has the honor of tossing first in the next round.

Scoring: A game = first team to score 21 points. You score 3 points for each bag in and through the hole. You get 1 point for each bag on the board. The score is the difference in the team totals. (example: After 1 round or 8 bags played, #1 team with 1 bag in the hole = 3 points. #2 team with 2 bags on board = 2 points. You would score the first round for #1 team = 1 point. Bags that are pushed in and through the hole by an opponent’s toss do count!

We set this up on our dining room table and had 3 of our nephews come over to play. They are ages 9, 11 and 13 years in age. For the game play, hubby joined them so we had 2 teams with 2 players each. The “guys” had a blast trying to toss their bags into the holes and you should of heard them when they accidentally knocked the opposing team’s bag into the hole. It was hysterical the things they would say! ha! This game entertained them for 2 1/2 hours nonstop! They absolutely loved it!
