DIY Dollar Tree Patriotic Door Wreath for July 4th

DIY Dollar Tree Patriotic Door Wreath for July 4thHow many of you enjoy inexpensive DIY craft projects? I know that I do! I really enjoy going out and shopping for cheap craft supplies and then sitting down to create something new for my home.

* The writer personally purchased all of the items from the Dollar Tree store. This post is NOT sponsored by the Dollar Tree in any way.

Last month I was in the Dollar Tree store and found a lot of great craft supplies that were only $1.00. I knew when I saw their patriotic items that I could buy them and turn them into a fabulous door wreath for my front door. The entire wreath cost me less than $10.00 to make!

At my local Dollar Tree store I purchased the following items for $1.00 each.

Metal Wreath Form
2 Patriotic Flag Print Women’s Scarves
2 Bunches of Red, White, Blue Faux Carnations
3 Bunches of Red, White, Blue Faux Carnations with Glitter & Glitter Stars

I supplied my own: Scissors, mini glue sticks and Glue Gun.

Note: You will have left-over faux carnations, but you’ll need to purchase a total of 5 bunches of them so that you can make the alternating red, white, blue color pattern on the wreath.

My local Dollar Tree does sell ribbon by the spool but they didn’t have any dark navy blue colors in-stock…so I opted to buy 2 women’s patriotic flag print scarves instead. I took each scarf and folded it into quarters…the long way to use it as ribbon to wrap around the metal wreath form. I used hot glue to tack it down every few inches and at the start and finishing ends. You’ll want to be generous with the glue. The photo above shows the back side of my wreath to give you a better idea of how to wrap it around the wreath form.

Use scissors to cut the carnations and glitter stars off their stems. Use your glue gun to add just a “tad” of glue at the bottom of each one to keep them held tightly together, since you removed them from their stems. Let dry for 30 seconds.

Lay out all of your goodies in your desired pattern. I did the classic red, white and blue…alternating the colors as I went around . When gluing them onto the wreath you want to use a GENEROUS amount of hot glue. Make sure they stick down really good and place them close together as you work your way around.

After you get all of the flowers on you’ll want to add the glittered stars that came on those same carnation picks. I decided to ONLY use 3 of the glittered stars, one in each color. Glue them on and evenly space them around. I simply glued them onto the center of the carnation in the opposite color. See photograph.

That’s it, you’re done! Quick and easy! I had mine completely done within an hour. You can opt to add additional goodies onto your Patriotic Door Wreath or add a bow. I personally like the simple, classic look….so that’s how I made it.

Additional Tip: Dollar Tree sells plastic see-thru storage bags (for linens) with zipper closures for a dollar. I bought one of those storage bags and will be storing my wreath in it when its not in use. That will keep the dirt and dust off of it while it sits on a storage shelf in my attic.
