Movie Review: SECOND ACT Starring Jennifer Lopez

I’m a guy, but not your typical guy. I enjoy watching romantic comedies on TV and on film. I have no problem sitting down and watching Lifetime Movies or the Hallmark Movie Channel. I find those type’s of movies funny, interesting, and entertaining.  We could use more movies like that in this world and less slapstick comedies.

Recently I received a copy of Second Act on DVD which stars Jennifer Lopez. I think we all know who she is. She’s one of the most famous actresses (on TV and film) and a pop music superstar. Before I give you my opinion on this movie, here’s some information about it.

SECOND ACT Starring Jennifer Lopez on DVD

Jennifer Lopez (Maid in Manhattan, “Shades of Blue”) returns to the big screen and proves it’s never too late to pursue your dreams in the hilarious and relatable romantic comedy, Second Act, coming to Digital on March 12th, 2019 and on Blu-rayTM Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand on March 26th, 2019 from STXfilms and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. From the director of 50 First Dates and Get Smart, Second Act is a heartfelt comedy that will inspire and empower audiences of all ages to reach for their biggest dreams. With an honest and moving performance from Jennifer Lopez, the film also features Lopez’s latest single “Limitless” and stars an incredible supporting cast including Leah Remini (“The King of Queens,” “Kevin Can Wait”), Vanessa Hudgens (The Princess Switch, High School Musical franchise) and Milo Ventimiglia (“This is Us,” “Gilmore Girls”).

Maya (Lopez) is a 40-year-old woman struggling with frustrations of not having achieved more in life. As an experienced, quick-witted, perceptive employee, she is passed over for a promotion solely because she doesn’t have a college degree. Until, that is, she gets the chance to prove that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts, and that it is never too late for a Second Act.

Filled with funny and genuine moments from beginning to end, Second Act “delivers smiles for miles” (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone) on Blu-rayTM, DVD and Digital, packed with special bonus content including funny and insightful commentary from the cast and filmmakers as well as entertaining featurettes that will take viewers behind the scenes of this incredibly thoughtful romantic comedy.

Shelly isn’t into movies of this genre so I sat down to watch it by myself with a big bowl of buttered popcorn. I’ve always enjoy the movies with Jennifer Lopez and I’m a fan of the cop show she does on TV. One of the things that has always impressed me is that she can play a variety of parts and nail them. She can be funny or serious. She does great in comedies or in dramas. She’s one of those actresses who can do it all.

The movie starts out a little slow but about 15 minutes into it picks up speed. I found the story line to be entertaining and funny. Its nice to see a story line that isn’t superhero or princess related. Its one of those movies that you don’t mind watching a few times. Is it her best work? In my opinion, no. But I would say that its one of her better movies with my all-time favorite being “Enough”. If you haven’t see that one, I recommend that movie too.

Looking to buy the DVD? You can find it on Amazon for an affordable price. A nice movie to watch alone, with a group of friends or for movie date night with your spouse.
