Chubby Checker Let’s Twist Again Wall Mural in Wildwood

A few times every year we travel down to Wildwood in New Jersey. If you’re unfamiliar with the area, The Wildwoods is a barrier island right off the southern New Jersey coast. It’s a 10 minute drive from Cape May and a 20 minute drive from Ocean City. In my honest opinion, it’s the best Jersey Shore destination!

Wildwood is known for Doo Wop Music and during the late 1950’s and 1960’s millions of people traveled there for the Doo Wop experience. Bill Haley and the Comets, Bobby Rydell and Chubby Checker are 3 of the biggest music icons to ever play on the island.

In honor of these great Doo Wop music icons the Wildwoods had an artist make three outdoor wall murals. One features Bobby Rydell, one features Billy Haley & his Comets and the third features Chubby Checker, one of our favorites! You can check out my previous post here on the blog to see the Bobby Rydell wall mural.

The Chubby Checker wall mural that I’m featuring today was painted by artist S. Daly on Labor Day in 2015. It’s located on the side of a large building in downtown Wildwood on Pacific Avenue. I had a hard time getting a shot of the full mural without any people or cars passing by. Yup, it’s that large and takes up the entire outside wall on a downtown business building.

I have been twisting to Chubby Checkers for a long, long time. I do love Wildwood and its vibe. My parents took us down there when I was a child and I took my children. Many a good memory was made there.

  3. I remember when the song came out and seeing people doing the Twist. What a great mural and sounds like an awesome place to go for a visit.

I like that. It reminds me of when I was young. We did the twist.

  6. Yes, but now I’ll have that song in my head for a long time. Too bad I’d have to travel 2,000 miles to get there.
