Snowman Holiday Decoration Made with Fillable Craft Block

Snowman Holiday Decoration Made with Fillable Craft BlockThe Christmas and holiday season is just around the corner and I’ve been busy working on some new holiday craft projects for our home and for gifts. For the past few weeks I’ve been using those trendy, fillable craft blocks and absolutely love them! In the past I’ve used glass craft blocks, but let me tell you…I’m totally hooked on this acrylic craft block that I was sent for this review!

* For this holiday craft project I was sent a complimentary Fillable Craft Block made by Hy-Lite. This post contains affiliate links.

Before I get started with the craft project I want to give you some information on the Fillable Craft Block that I used.  It’s an acrylic (plastic) craft block that has a small round opening in the top with a rubber plug. You simply pull out the plug and fill it with your goodies. These blocks are great alternatives to glass blocks which are heavy and breakable, matter of fact…it’s 70% lighter than your traditional glass craft blocks!

It’s made of architectural-grade acrylic for long-lasting strength & durability and comes in your standard 8″ by 8″ by 3″ size. Fitted with a 1 1/2″ access hole with a reusable rubber seal type of plug. The craft block is made by Hy-Lite and proudly made in the U.S.A.

Fillable Craft Block by Hy-Lite
1/4 Bag of Acrylic Fiber-Fill Stuffing
Vinyl Transfer Sheet by Trendy Expressions
White Faux Snow Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels

Note: You can substitute the acrylic fiber-fill stuffing with small foam pellet-style beads or white confetti.

Wipe down your craft block with a damp cloth to remove dust and smudges. Towel dry. Make sure it’s completely dry before beginning the project. Place your desired white material down inside the craft block via the opening in the top (we used white stuff) and place the rubber plug back on top.

We used a Snowman Face Vinyl Transfer from Trendy Expressions that we picked up at our local craft supply store. Peel the backing off of the transfer sheet, line up the facial features on your block and use a popsicle stick to rub the vinyl design onto the front of the block. This took me less than 10 seconds to do!

To give it that “snowman” look and to add depth…I opted to paint the outside rim of the craft block with white faux snow textured craft paint. You can pick this up at your local craft store or from Amazon. You just paint it onto your block and let dry for 3-4 hours. That’s it, you’re done!

I think these Snowman Craft Blocks look absolutely darling displayed on a shelf, tabletop, your fireplace mantle, on your buffet table, hutch, etc. and they work up quickly! You could make an entire family of them in just one afternoon!

  5. This is so cute and looks like a fun project for us to do for the holdays. I so want to get some of these blocks I had never seen them before until I saw them on your blog thanks for sharing the great idea.

  6. I love how cute it is. Another thing I appreciate is that you made it out of plastic instead of glass because I almost looked over this craft since I was worried my daughter might break it, with her being a toddler and all. She can actually help me with this craft, which makes it more fun.
