Kid’s Craft Project: Puppy Dog Painted Seashells

Kid's Craft Project: Puppy Dog Painted SeashellsOver the past 16 months we’ve shared numerous craft projects that use seashells in their design with you here on the blog. Well guess what? We’re back again today with another one! You can find a ton of painted seashell designs right here on the blog!!!

Last weekend we had the kids over for a crafting with Nanny play date and they had a lot of fun making these hand-painted Puppy Dog Painted Seashells. They’re easy to make and you can make several of them in one afternoon. You can change up the colors and the design to match different breeds of dogs. The Princess calls this her “Snoopy” design. Wash and thoroughly dry all seashells. Lay newspaper down on your work surface and gather painting supplies.

For this project the Princess base coated (2 coats) the large clam shell with white acrylic paint. She base coated the 3 barnacle seashells with (2 coats) of black acrylic paint. Let dry.

Once dry you’ll add the puppy dog’s facial features onto the large clam shell and onto one of the barnacle shells (his pink nose and mouth). Let dry.

Have an adult use the E6000 glue adhesive to attach the ears and muzzle seashells onto the dog’s face (the large clam shell) as shown in the photographs. This is the BEST adhesive for gluing seashells onto one another. You will have to let them dry overnight, so that they get a good, strong bond to one another.

Once all of the glue is dry you’ll take your seashells outside and give them 2 coats of the clear acrylic spray sealer. This will make them safe to display inside or outside and protects the paint from chips and fading. On a hot & sunny day, they’ll be dry in less than 2 hours. That’s it, you’re done!
