Homemade M&M Tie-Dye Cookies Recipe

I’m fortunate that I get to see my grandchildren at least once every week. When they come over to my house I always try to send them home with some treats, usually a batch of homemade cookies. When it comes to cookies, they love chocolate chip or M&M cookies which are always at the top of their list.

A few weeks ago I made a batch of what I call M&M Tie-Dye Cookies. If you want your cookies to get colorful, you’ll want to use regular M&M candies, not the mini ones that you find in the baking aisle, but the regular candies that you find in the candy aisle. They melt a lot better and really give the cookies that tie-dye look that all kids seem to love.

Here’s the recipe that I use when I make them. It will make approximately 25-32 cookies, depending on how big you make them. Plus, you can vary the amount of candies that you use in the recipe to suit your own liking.

You can vary the amount of M&M’s candies that you use to suit your own liking. I tend to use 1 cup mixed into the batter, but sometimes I’ll use 1 1/2 cups which is what the kids prefer. To them, the more candy, the better.
Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups M&M’s Candies
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl beat together the softened butter and brown sugar. Beat in the large egg and vanilla extract until well combined. In a separate bowl sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda and salt.
  3. Gradually add the flour mixture to the creamed butter mixture until both are well combined together. Hand stir in the M&M’s candies.
  4. Drop dough onto an ungreased baking sheet. I use a tablespoon to drop the dough and leave about 2″ of space between each one. Place baking sheet into the oven and bake for 8-11 minutes or until done. Remove from oven and let them sit on the baking sheet for an additional minute. Place cookies onto a wire rack to thoroughly cool, before placing them into an airtight container.

I love the tie-dye effect. I did not know that regular M&Ms would leak like that and no the baking ones. Thanks for the recipe.
