Shrimp and Crab Seafood Layered Dip Recipe

The holidays are just around the corner and every time our family gets together…my husband whips up this delicious recipe for a layered seafood dip. He’s been making it for the past 15 years and it’s always a big hit!

When you make it…you want to make it up at least 12 hours ahead of time and refrigerate it overnight. You need to allow the flavors to infuse and you always want to serve it chilled. You can serve it with your favorite corn chips, potato chips, artisan crackers, artisan breads or serve it alongside a meat & cheese tray.

Shrimp and Crab Meat Layered Dip Recipe

1 (8 ounce) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 (16 ounce) container of sour cream
2 cans of tiny shrimp
1 can white crab meat
1 envelope Ranch dressing mix
1 bottle of cocktail sauce

Mix cream cheese and sour cream together in a large bowl. Add in the Ranch dressing mix, stir until blended. Place bowl in freezer for 10 minutes. Remove from freezer and spread mixture into a serving dish (we use a rectangular glass baking dish). Pour cocktail sauce evenly over mixture. Drain crab meat and shrimp, mix them together in a small bowl. Spread the seafood mixture over the cocktail sauce. Cover and refrigerate for 12 hours before serving.

Note: If you’re going to make it during the summertime and if you’re serving food outdoors, consider making it in plastic divided containers with lids. You can put the dip in the larger-sized section and the chips/crackers in the smaller-sized sections. You can keep the containers covered to keep pests out and if anyone drops the container, the dish won’t break!

This is a delicious recipe. I love the combination of shrimp and crab with cream cheese, etc.

  2. Allergy to shell fish for me so although I would love it, this is something I cant eat but it would be something the rest of my family would quickly eat up. I am going to share the recipe with my daughter.

looks good I am always looking for something that has shrimp in it. MY family is big shrimp eaters and when I get the peel and eat it goes to fast.

  5. I agree with ellen that I’d have to make it to take somewhere. This looks so delicious. Love seafood and cream cheese and sour cream and ranch dressing. Maybe a bit of green onion on top.

  6. I havent made this myself, but boy this is some good stuff, could eat it with a spoon and be happy. I wonder if you can use imitation crab or canned? We dont get the good crab meat like you do, and I would love to make it . I would have to be taking it somewhere though, or really it would be slowly (or quickly) devoured.
