PSA – Fixing Paco for Kidney Disease Prevention and Organ Donation

Fixing Paco PSA for Kidney Disease Prevention and Organ DonationHow many of you suffer with kidney disease or know someone who’s struggling with it? Chances are…you know at least one person, if not more. Kidney disease runs pretty high in my family…from chronic kidney stones to deadly renal failure. It’s important to know your family’s history and to do everything that you can to prevent it. Education and early testing is KEY for overall success.

Today I’m going to share with you some important information. Please read through it and forward the information onto others. It’s a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT (PSA) and it’s vital that we spread awareness and information to others.

A staggering 1 in 10 people have kidney disease – an estimated 26 million Americans – and most do not find out until their kidney disease is advanced. In addition, there is an extremely high need for organ donors—currently, there are approximately 120,000 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant in the U.S., and of these, approximately 100,000 need a kidney transplant.

While the stats are super compelling, it’s also relevant to *MAY* National Women’s Health Awareness Week and *JUNE* Men’s Health Awareness Month.

There is a PSA video featuring Paul Rodriguez and Gloria Garayua, the stars of the Mendez National Institute of Transplantation Foundation (MNITF) multi-award-winning patient education series Fixing Paco. The PSA delivers a strong call-to-action about kidney disease prevention, the need for organ donation. Please take the time to watch the PSA video above and share it with others that you know.

Check out the FixingPaco.org website, where you can get information about kidney disease and prevention, becoming an organ donor, and kidney transplantation. In addition, the Fixing Paco web series provides comprehensive education about being proactive in one’s healthcare as well as valuable information including how to access transplantation, what it takes to maintain a transplant, and how a positive attitude and lots of support can create the power of hope.

Thank you for taking the time today to read this very important PSA message and thank you for sharing the information with others.

I am an organ donor and have been for as many years as I can remember. My mother who was a nurse was a whole body donor upon her death. She went to the college of orthopedic medicine after the organs they could use were taken. Hubby is also an organ donor. This is a great reminder that there are those in need.

My daughter was an organ donor. When she passed her kidneys along with her pancreas went to a nice man whose diabetes ruined his kidneys. Receiving a new pancreas meant that he was no longer diabetic.

Wow! I wasn’t aware so many people needed Kidney Transplants. Kidney disease does not run in my Family as far as I know. I do however watch my Body for any changes that could be trouble. I do have other medical issues that I try to stay on top of~ Thank You for sharing this very important Message. I am going to share it now too!
