April the Giraffe and Giraffe Craft Projects for Kids

April the Giraffe and Giraffe Craft Projects for KidsFor the past 3 1/2 weeks we’ve been watching the April the Giraffe live cam on YouTube waiting for the beautiful giraffe to give birth to her 4th baby. If you haven’t heard the buzz, April is a 15 year old Giraffe who’s expecting a baby (any day now) with her partner Oliver who is 5 year’s old. The couple resides at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville New York.

Over the past few weeks I’ve enjoyed watching the Live Cam with my 7 1/2 year old granddaughter. We’ve been learning a lot about giraffes by attending the evening chat and by doing our own research online. In addition to learning about giraffes, we’ve been working on various arts & crafts projects too.

You can learn more about April the Giraffe and get all of the official links to the live cam, souvenir & gift store and get more info on Animal Adventure Park by visiting the official April the Giraffe website.

April the Giraffe Coloring Page

Check out this adult coloring page that I colored that features two adult giraffes and a baby. The page is from the “How to Color Like an Artist” book that I featured right here on the blog. The book focuses on how to use colored pencils, but I personally colored in my page using glitter gel ink pens. I love, love, love that particular page and it totally reminds me of April, Oliver and the new baby!

If I find any more cool giraffe craft projects and/or coloring pages online, I’ll update this page as we go along.

  1. I have always loved giraffes and haven’t peaked in on April yet. I love all the giraffe activities and have lots of brown paper sacks for that activity–for a whole zoo actually. My manager is waiting to have her baby and already on maternity leave and I’m sure many can sympathize with the wait and anticipation.

These are wonderful tips to entertain the kids and have them learn about giraffes at the same time.

Thank You for the wonderful tips on the Giraffe crafts that the children can do. My Grand kids would love these. I too was watching April the Giraffe waiting for the birth of her baby. That was several weeks ago. I was under the impression that she already had her Baby and I missed it! Lol~

It sure is taking a long time for this baby to get here, lol. I didn’t realize April was older than her fellow! April is a ‘cougar’ giraffe, ha!

    • ROFL! I love it…Cougar Giraffe! We’re all going to need an after-birth support group for our April withdraw.

  6. I have heard the buzz about April but I have not had a chance to look at the youtube channel yet. I so love giraffes and the babies are so lovely. Thank you for sharing I will check it out can’t wait to see the little one.

You arent the only one hooked on Apriil. I have you tube on all the time. In fact itt is on now. I am watching that poor giraffe like a hawk. Being a night owl, I am realizing she is sleeping less. Really she is taking naps. I am always afraid because I am offline until about now and then later she is going to have it!

    • Ellen, I’m glad that I’m not the only one addicted to watching her. She’s beautiful and I love watching her eat her carrot and lettuce treats and her long purple tongue is incredible! I think she’s close to giving birth, just by observing her behavior the past 24 hours. She seems to be pacing more and I’ve caught her posturing today a few times. I hope it’s soon and I hope it’s during the daytime hours!

Yep, I have seen her posturing in the middle of the night almost llike she is practicing. I think it would be during the day. Daytime makes more sense as in the wild she would be alert for predators but I have Googlled and it does say they have given birth at night. Plus I read giraffes only need about 30 minutes of sleep at nightt.
Being in the zoo though and being in half lit areas might have thrown her times off. You would almost have to know what times her other calves were born, but I cant find that so far. She does seem to be acting differently again.

        • I just got done watching Dr. Tim give her an exam, feed her treats and then he finished up giving her some carrots. I love when they feed her carrots & lettuce right in front of the camera so we can see her slobber and stick out that extra-long, purple tongue! She’s beautiful. I can’t wait to see that baby!
