How to Re-Size Your Rings at Home

Frugal Tips by Shelly at TwoClassyChicsLike most women, I love jewelry and I’m really passionate about wearing rings. I have over 70+ rings in my collection and I look at my jewelry collection as a financial investment that I will some day pass down to my daughter and grandchildren.

Even though I love rings and I buy a lot of them, I’m frugal about it and always looking for a bargain deal. I will wear white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, sterling silver, platinum, etc. If I like it and it’s a good deal, I will typically buy it!

With that said, sometimes when I come across a great deal on a ring it will be in the wrong size! In the past…if a ring was too big for the finger that I want to wear it on…I would cry about it and not purchase it or I would buy it and pay a lot of money to a jeweler to re-size it. Well, not anymore!

How to Re-Size Your Rings at Home

Recently I came across two different rings that I fell in-love with and both were on clearance for a great price! One ring was one-size too big and the other ring was two-sizes too big for my finger. I decided to purchase BOTH rings and re-size them myself at home. Yes, you read that right!

I went to the craft store and purchased myself a box of those foam adhesive-backed little squares that you use in scrapbooking to attach photos & embellishment to your pages. These squares are tiny and you can find them in 1/8″ and 1/4″ sizes.

I simply peel off the paper-backing from the squares and stick them inside the ring. For the one ring I used just one square and for the other ring I had to use two of them. By adding the squares inside them (underneath the gemstone part, not the band part)…I re-sized BOTH of my new rings to fit my fingers.

On top of that, these foam squares are comfortable to wear inside my rings and no-one can even see them! Last year I had purchase those plastic & silicone ring-sizers at a store and you could see them & they were uncomfortable to wear. If you’ve had the same issues, go out and buy yourself a box of those little foam adhesive-backed squares in the scrapbooking section at your local craft store.

Every time I’ve applied them inside my rings…they last for several weeks before I need to change them out. In addition, they’ve caused NO DAMAGE to the finish of my rings or to the gemstones. NO DAMAGE AT ALL.

Well, there you have it! My frugal tip for the week!

THis is a great idea. It is a clever use of these foam adhesive backed square. I would love to resize a ring by myself and not have to bring it to a jeweler.

This is really a clever way to resize your ring to a smaller size. It definitely would save the trips to the jeweler for resizing. I have the opposite problem. I wish there was a way to stretch the ring at home! Lol! I too love rings the more sparkle the Better! Thank You for this useful tip. 🙂

  3. Clever idea, and our ring size can change over time too, in addition to buying new rings.
