The Beautiful Architecture of Old Churches

Old Church in Hershey PennsylvaniaAs you all know, my husband and I do a great deal of traveling. We love taking road trips and don’t care if it’s a day trip, weekend getaway or an entire vacation. When we travel, we prefer to do it by car, so that we can see & do many different things.

One thing that we LOVE to do is to check out old churches! We love sitting there and looking at their beautiful stained glass windows, religious statuary and of course, the old architecture from when they were built. If you ask me, the older the church, the better.

Since we love looking at old buildings, especially churches, we thought we would share two photos with all of you of ones that are nearby our home. We do NOT have any affiliations with either one.

Old Church Hummelstown

The one featured in the first photo is of an old one that is located in downtown Hershey Pennsylvania. I see a little bit of gothic influence as well as victorian with it. I love the gray & white coloring and the stone arch out front that the parishioners walk-through when they enter & leave.

The second one featured in this post is one that is located in a small town called Hummelstown in Pennsylvania which sits right outside of Hershey. This one isn’t as “fancy” as the first one but it’s definitely old. Hubby said it’s over 100+ years old. He loves all of the hand stonework that is featured on this particular building.

Do any of you enjoy driving around and looking at old buildings? What about old churches? Got any favorites near you? I would love to take a cross-country road trip some day to just view as many that I could. I just find them so peaceful to look at.

Old churches have so much character. We did not have many nearby where we used to live. We have not yet had the chance to go exploring around the neighborhood of our new home.

  2. I so love old churches and these two are really beautiful. I love looking at the architecture of older buildings. We have some really pretty churches in our area too and they are still standing strong after all these years.

  3. We saw so many beautiful old churches when we visited Boston and NYC a few years ago. I so enjoy finding out about the history of the buildings and looking at the architectural designs.

  4. I love old buildings, although not necessarily churches. The two churches you’ve featured here are gorgeous! The first one is really impressive, and I agree with your husband that the stonework on the second is stunning. Now that you’ve got me thinking about it, I don’t know of any particularly notable old churches around here. Most of the older churches are white clapboard and they always look so pretty in the fall, surrounded by the colorful trees. Like postcards. Thanks for sharing your photos.

  5. There is something awe inspiring in old architecture. I like the first one a lot. There is a basilica nearby you would just love. It is in Dyersville a very very small town, The stained glass is amazing. My husband and I also love the old buildings.

They are beautiful. Growing up in KY, I saw a lot of old country churches, too, & I love the simplicity of them.

  7. These are beautiful buildings. They make for great backgrounds when taking family pictures.

I think it is very romantic that you two both love to look at old churches. I like old buildings a lot too. I really love the old gothic influenced churches too. We have one here in Manitou called St Andrews that is just gorgeous.
