Seabird Watching on the North Wildwood Seawall

Shore Bird on the Rocks in North WildwoodWe love going down to the beach house a few times every year. While many areas on the eastern seaboard have beautiful coastal communities, our favorite place to go is North Wildwood in New Jersey. Out of all three of the Wildwoods, we love North Wildwood the best.

Beside loving the beach and the Atlantic Ocean…we love to sit and do some bird watching, especially seabird watching! We love watching the herons, egrets, cranes, seagulls, etc. all play in the water. Okay, besides playing, we enjoy watching them hunt for their food.

Birdwatching North Wildwood Seawall

I find it extremely relaxing to sit on a bench or on the beach and watch these birds for hours! The only time I don’t enjoy it is when I have food in my hands and they come dive bombing to get it. Yes, folks, the seagulls will dive bomb you to steal your food!

We took these photos while sitting up on the North Wildwood Seawall in New Jersey. It’s one of the prettiest places to be on the entire island and I think you get to see the best variety of seabirds too! The prettiest views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Rocks, the Beach and of course the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse are all right here!

Well, there you have it! My “Almost” Wordless Wednesday and Travel Post all wrapped up into one blog post. Do any of you enjoy birdwatching? Watching the seabirds?

  1. I love birdwatching. I’d like to see North Wildwood some day, I just won’t plan on eating on the beach! I’ve been feeding sparrows, and they can get pretty cheeky, too. When I run out of seeds they like to be hand fed, they come right up and stand there and stare at me with their cute little beady eyes!

  2. I never did much bird watching except when I worked on Mackinac Island one summer during college break. They sold a lot of souvenirs with birds and especially seagulls since they have many there. They don’t allow cars son the island so the birds probably get pretty bold and tame to the tourists and regulars. My sister still visits there regularly since it’s so picturesque and peaceful.

I can see why you like this place. It would be very relaxing to sit on the seawall and watch the seabirds.

You always have the most beautiful seaside photos! I love this one, too.

    • Thanks Tamra. I try to capture & photograph the little things when we travel and of course…the ocean & the beach is my favorite place to be!

  5. Great pictures. What kind of bird is that? I only know it’s not a seagull.

  6. Oh, how pretty! And what a beautiful spot to relax and watch the world go by. There’s something special about shorebirds, the way they play in the surf. Yes, I know they’re hard at work gathering food, but it sure looks like fun. Thanks for sharing your pictures.
