Children’s Book Review: In Plain Sight

Children's Book - In Plain SightHow many of you are grandparents? How many of you have children who have close relationships with their grandparents? If you said YES to either one of those questions, I think you’ll appreciate the children’s book that we’re featuring for you today.

Title: In Plain Sight
Authors: Richard Jackson & Jerry Pinkney

Book Synopsis: Sophie lives with her Mama, Daddy, and Grandpa. Every day when Sophie comes home, Grandpa sends her on a mission to find the paperclips, paintbrushes, and other everyday items he hides in plain sight. Pinkney’s warm and detailed art begs the reader to stare and search just like Sophie, and the sweet and playfully illustrated relationship between Sophie and her grandfather recalls routines the reader may share with their own beloved grandparent. IN PLAIN SIGHT’s starred review in Publishers Weekly can’t say it better: “There’s one thing that’s never missing from this gentle story about a special bond between the generations, and that’s the love.”

In Plain Sight Children's Book

My Thoughts: As you all know, I see BOTH of my grandchildren several times every week and have an extremely close relationship with them. We hold regular reading dates, play dates and craft dates with them and it something we always look forward to. When it comes to reading, I feel its important to start our children out at a very young age to learn to love books and to learn to read them…even when they’re toddlers! Matter of fact, my granddaughter was reading simple books at the age of 4 years old! She is 7 now and loves to read!

I received a complimentary copy of “In Plain Sight” to review for you and it’s a wonderful book. The illustrations are just gorgeous and I did find myself searching them closely to find the hidden item that Sophie was looking for. My husband often plays hide ‘n seek games with our granddaughter, so this book totally reminded me of that. It’s an easy read and at the age of 7…Princess had no problems reading it and understanding the story line.
