Track Your Sleep Patterns with the RestOn Smart Sleep Monitor

RestOn Smart Sleep MonitorThere’s nothing that can really compare to a good night’s sleep. Some days I wake up feeling great and others, not so much. Sometimes I have trouble turning myself off from the craziness of the day and with approximately 70 million Americans suffering from chronic sleep disorders, it would seem that this is a common occurrence. Lack of sleep can lead to serious problems such as diabetes, obesity, depression and heart issues, so taking steps to understand your personal sleep patterns is critical to correcting any issues you might be having and getting yourself some quality rest.

I recently tried out a product from Sleepace, a leading innovator in smart sleep solutions, called RestOn. RestOn is a non-wearable smart sleep monitor that measures, tracks and analyzes sleep quality. I’ve been using the device for the past week and apparently I’m stellar sleeper, according to the app that works hand-in-hand with the device. It synchs up easily with a Bluetooth device (I’ve been using my iPhone) to accurately measure sleep time, heart rate, respiratory rate, body movement, and sleep cycles.

The device is fairly easy to set up, but I wasn’t sure if I had to charge it prior to the first use. After testing it out, it appeared to be ready to go right out of the box. There’s a video online that you can watch as well to show you where to place the device and how to secure it. I downloaded the app to my phone and placed the 2-foot long sensor strip under my sheet (it goes between the sheet and the mattress) and the device itself hangs over the side of the bed. There’s a magnetic plate that comes off of the device and attaches to the outside of the sheet to hold the device in place. Once you have the device in place, you can either set it to start measuring your sleep at a particular time each night or just manually turn it on when you are ready to go to sleep. I have mine set for 10:45 p.m. If you don’t actually go to sleep at that time, it’s okay. It gives you a four-hour window before and after to ensure that your sleep is tracked. In the morning, you simply click the “get up” button and your results are delivered within seconds.

The status data that is provided is useful and understandable and you can click each of the categories to read more about each category and what the average rates should be. If your number isn’t up to par, you will be offered tips for improvement. It looks like I’m a fairly good sleeper with average scores each night. Last night, my score was 91, which is a pretty impressive sleep score! It took me 21 minutes to fall asleep, my breath rate was 17 times per minute and my heart rate was 71 beats per minute. If you click on the Sleep Score, you get a daily summary that explains factors that could be affecting the score—and most importantly, your sleep!
