Kids Craft Project: Pom-Pom Animals

Pom-Pom Pals Animals Craft KitTwice a month I get together with my almost 7 year old grand daughter and we sit down to craft together. We’ve been doing this for the past 1 1/2 years and she loves it. It’s a great way to spend time with children and have a good bonding session with them.

As part of our bi-monthly crafting with kids segment we are featuring a wonderful craft kit that you can do with older kids!

Pom-Pom Pals Animals Craft Kit

Silver Dolphin Books presents a crafting kit just for kids: Pom-Pom Pals: Animals ISBN: 978-1626862906; Ages 7 and up, and contains everything that budding crafters need to create the most adorable fuzzy friends you’ve ever seen. This complete kit and detailed book of instructions comes with easy-to-use pom-pom makers, four colors of yarn, felt, ribbon, and ready-made mini pom-poms, everything kids will need to make a lion, penguin, monkey, and panda. The full-color simple step-by-step instruction book contains extra project ideas and instructions to make even more adorable pom-pom animals, plus fascinating facts about each creature. Once kids have created their new pom-pom friends, they can personalize their animals and sign the included adoption certificate to become the official owners of the cutest critters on the planet.

The kit includes a 48-page book with step-by-step instruction, 3 pom-pom makers, 4 colors of yarn (18 yards each), 3 pieces of colored felt, 15 ready-made mini pom-poms, 2 decorative ribbons, a press-out carrier, and an adoption certificate.

Our Thoughts: This kit is for children ages 7 and up, but as a grandmother to a 7 year old…I admit, I did have to help her quite a bit when making these. The kit comes with everything you’ll need except for: glue, scissors and a tape measure for measuring out the lengths of yarn. Each kit will make the 4 featured animals, but includes instructions to make 4 additional ones (you’ll need to add more supplies to do that).

The instructions and patterns for each animal are in the included book and all of the instructions are very easy to follow, along with the color photographs and diagrams. To start out – You’ll assemble your supplies and then make the required pom-poms by using the included pom-pom maker. Once they’ve been made, you’ll assemble your new animal with glue and then let it dry. Each animal took us about 45 minutes to make and then another 1-2 hours of drying time.

So far, we’ve made 3 out of the 4 pom-pom animals and with adult help, a child can make these. If you have an older child (maybe above the age of 10) they could probably make them by themselves. Younger kids will definitely need some help.

You can find this fabulous craft kit with book when you shop at Silver Dolphin Books, along with hundreds of other titles that they have available.

Comments

  1. The lion and bear, oh my, are faves. They do look simple for kids to make. Once you learn the techniques you can make many more with your choice of materials–great fun.

  2. Sherry Compton says

I really like that you and your granddaughter get together twice a month for crafts. Crafts are great for bonding and letting the imagination and fun fly. I like the cute animals and know my granddaughter would too. Good to know about younger kids needing help, but I do like that the instructions are well laid out. I hope you will keep bringing fun crafts to us.

  3. It is helpful to know that for the younger age groups they would need some help. My granddaughter is 6 and would enjoy it but I would make sure to do it at a time when it was a project that we did together. Very cute.

Oh, this is SO cute! my 2 oldest granddaughters are 8 and 10, and would love it. I may buy this book and send it to them. They have a 1-year-old sister that they love to craft for, I hear. If the book comes in the mail anonymously, their mom will ket them have it, or maybe I’ll have a friend order it and send to them. I love that it comes with everything you need!

  5. Jo-Ann Brightman says

My grandsons are too young , but I love the idea of a crafting book for kids. I shall try to remeber this for the future. Actually my daughter-in-law might like to try it now.
