Children’s Book Review: Anna Banana

I’ve been buying children’s books for my little grand daughter before she was even born and over the years, I’ve amassed quite a large collection of books that she enjoys. I am very pleased that Gia loves to read and loves to read all kinds of different books!

Recently we received two new children’s books to review and both are absolutely fantastic! They are from the First Second Books.

anna banana & the chocolate explosion children's book

The first one is titled: Anna Banana and the Chocolate Explosion by author Dominique Roques and illustrated by Alexis Dormal. It will be released for purchase on 6-16-2015.

Synopsis: Anna Banana’s stuffed animal friends are hungry and she has just the solution: it’s time to bake, a chocolate cake! But with Anna Banana in charge of the baking, you’d better get ready for the biggest mess you’ve ever seen…

Our Thoughts: I just love this book! The story line is funny, entertaining and full of whimsy! The illustrations are as cute as can be too! I love how the author took a common every day thing that a child has (stuffed animals) and incorporated them into the story…matter of fact, they play a big role in the story line. I appreciate that it’s an easy ready for a 6 year old and she has no problem reading the story from start to finish all by herself. On top of that, she knows what ever word means!

sleep tight, anna banana children's book

The second one is titled: Sleep Tight, Anna Banana by author Dominque Roques and illustrated by Alexis Dormal. Both of these books are companions to one another so I suggest picking them both up when you purchase them.

Synopsis: Good night, Anna Banana! Sleep tight, Anna Banana! That’s what her beloved toys all wish for. They’re tired out after a full day of playing. But Anna Banana isn’t ready. Can her stuffed animals convince her to go to sleep?

Our Thoughts: I love children’s bedtime story books that have beautiful illustrations like this one. Anna Banana is super funny and I love that her stuffed animals are always her best friends, I am sure many children can relate.  With this story, I like how the stuffed animals do all kinds of funny things to get on Anna Banana’s nerves to get her to settle down and go to bed…like jumping madly on her bed! At the end of the book, Anna Banana realizes that when it’s bedtime, it’s a time for her and others around her to rest and go to sleep.  Gia really likes this one!

  1. JoAnn Brightman says

Both these books sound delightful and I love the illustrations. I also like the sound of,the little girl’s name., so easy to say and remember.

  2. The cover illustrations look delightful and fun. Nice that it is a book that young children can read for themselves. I am always looking for easy read books for my grandkids.

  3. The biggest flaw with all of the digital books and electronic devices is that kids don’t want to read books the way I did when I was a kid. The illustrations don’t come through on a screen the way they do on paper.

  4. so cute! it reminds me of a relative we would tease her name as janna banana!!! brings back memories!
