Organic vs Traditional Cosmetics – Which One’s are the Best?

Organic vs Traditional Cosmetics Lipstick With Other Cosmetics by Stuart Miles
There is a so many different types of makeup and cosmetics on the market now. It can be overwhelming to find the right make up for you and your skin. Then throw in whether to use an organic product or traditional cosmetics and you really have your work cut out for you. So here are some things to think about when choosing your next cosmetics product.

Organic vs Traditional Cosmetics

* Organic cosmetics use only naturally obtained fragrances whereas traditional cosmetics use chemicals or synthetics to fragrance their makeup products. You can look on the products for the official USDA Certified Organic seal of approval.

* Organic makeup contains no artificial ingredients and no chemical preservatives. To be labeled as 100% organic, all ingredients need to be sourced from organic. All organic makeup is sourced from natural plant-based ingredients that are also organic in nature. They must meet strict standards in how they are formulated, processed, packaged and distributed.

* Organic and Natural cosmetics are traditionally good for your skin and have helpful skincare benefits. Their traditional counterparts are often laden with harmful and harsh chemicals which can damage your skin. Not all cosmetics are created equally, even among the sub-categories.

* Even if the product is organic, natural or traditional you can still have allergic reactions to it. Just because it is labeled as “organic” and/or “natural” you can still have issues with it when it comes to use. Read all labels, including the fine little print and do research to find out what the ingredients are and if they have any benefits to them.

Thanks for the information. I haven’t had any issues since my teens-long ago but I do have a daughter whose entire skin is very sensitive to breakouts and redness. You can just touch her anywhere and it will turn red. Her face breaks out and is severe. I will pass this on.

Organic vs Traditional Cosmetics was very informative….

  3. Sherry Jennings says

I hardly ever use make up but would be interested in trying organic ones

  4. JoAnn Brightman says

Thank you for this explanation. I still use traditional cosmetics, but would like to try organic ones. I am worried, about a reaction, so I shall have to find samples fort.

  5. Carol Nine says

I haven’t seen organic makeup in the store that I shop at. I will have to look for it. Maybe it will help prevent blemishes?

  6. I always try to use organic makeup

Very well put…a great explanation. There are so many terms out there; it’s confusing. I like how they have helpful skin benefits. I am becoming more aware of the products I use. We think about foods but it’s also important for skincare.

  8. It wasn’t until I became a mother that I began really paying attention to the ingredients in household products that contained items that are not regulated by the US since 1938. knowing that all the beauty products on the market today and produced by companies that knowingly use items that could have harmful outcomes to our health in the long run is obsurd. Some may thing people go a little “overboard” only buying organic or natural but I want to be the one in control as to what i expose myself and my family to.

But yes, there is a difference between Natural and Organic when it comes to beauty products and it’s very beneficial to understand the difference so you as the individual can make the choice of what products you want to use on your skin.

  9. I recently started to become more conscience about the ingredients not only in household products but beauty products as well, and I found it very alarming that many companies out there use the ingredients that they do knowing that they can in the long run can potentially cause harm to ones health to include baby products. Maybe some people go “overboard” with only shopping for “natural” or “organic” but when the US only regulates less than the EU than you have to take matters in your own hands whine it comes to your and your family’s health.

I use organic foundation and cover up on my skin because I am allergic to the the ones that have chemicals in them. I have been allergic to a number of makeup brands, so I try different products to see if I do not have a problem with them.

Thanks for the good info! I know that “organic or Natural” does not necessarily mean it is straight from Heaven. Poison Ivy is organic & natural! Basically, what I think it comes down to, in traditional OR organic, is just to read the ingredients carefully, and stay away from those that you know you are sensitive to.

I dont wear a lot of make up although I keep telliing myself I should. Mascara makes my eyes burn as well as most shadows, foundations feel horrible. About all I use is perhaps a tinted foundation and a tinted gloss.

  13. I try to do Organic everything. Food, cosmetics, etc.
I don’t wear makeup very often, but when I do – it’s Organic.

  14. I don’t wear lipstick too much any more. I threw my old stuff out and now use shea butter lip balm or a gloss and don’t miss that stick at all. I like the lip liners that stay too.

  15. Really good information. I think that a lot of people get confused with the Organic standards especially when it comes to makeup.
