Do Not Enter – Stay Out of My Driveway!

do not enter signGood morning everyone! I am so thankful that we are halfway to the weekend. Got some fun things planned and I definitely need some fun after the past 2 weeks that I have had.

Anyway….I do have a VENT today. We have lived in our new house for 1 1/2 years now and every day people take it upon themselves to turn around in our driveway. Yes…almost every day at least 2 vehicles come down our driveway to turn around because they miss the turn off at the intersection leading into our development.

We got sick and tired of this because there are OTHER places they can turn around other than in a private driveway. We went out last month and got a DO NOT ENTER sign and put that up. Do you think that slowed down these disrespectful motorists? Nope…it only cut it down by about 10% which pisses me off!

This is private property, a private driveway and I am sick & tired of drivers thinking they can turn around where ever they want. What? I never turn around in someone else’s driveway and always look for a public street and/or parking lot to do it in. ugh!!!

From now on, I am taking down license plate numbers and will call the police for trespassing as I am just tired of it now! My sign is in ENGLISH and it is at the beginning of our stinking driveway. People are lazy & very disrespectful.shellysig100x60

I can see how frustrating it must be to have strange cars coming down your driveway. Now that you put up a sign there is even less reason for them to come into it. Perhaps you should put up a sign saying you are being video taped and a ticket will be issued!

Congrats to the winners! I completely understand what you are saying. You’ll be happy to know that my hubby is one of those people that would drive a mile before pulling down someone’s driveway. I will admit that I have pulled into…just a car length mind you, never down the driveway, but only if I’m lost and it’s dark and I have no idea how far I would have to go down the road to find another place.

  3. I love your VENT posts! It cracked me up that you wrote that the sign was in English I was laughing out loud. That would drive me nuts having people pulling into our driveway all day long to turn around. I am trying to think of what you can do…. All I can think of is putting up a gate close to the road with a number pad for the gate to open. People are such idiots and everyday I am reminded that there is no shortage of idiots!!!!!

    Congratulations to the winners.

How awful for you! Maybe you can put in a gate to stop the traffic in your driveway. There is probably an easement that has to be left clear but above that maybe a metal gate would dissuade drivers. What is wrong with people these days??

  5. Sorry about the driveway drama. I shared a driveway once and the neighbors ran over our dog. It was horrible.

I can see that being a frustrating situation! Drivers are so rude these days. My vent is always about the fact that we are in a No Solicitation neighborhood and we still get people knocking on our door. It takes almost half and hour for the dogs to calm back down after.
One of these days, I will call the Constables.

That is so terrible. They are turning around in your driveway. Maybe if it happened a few times over the course of a year, but this is way too much and I would be ticked off too. I like your sign. I hope this problem gets stopped. It is very irritating!

    • Since I published this post this morning…2 peeps have already turned around in my driveway and one guy in his truck threw his cigarette out the window & in my driveway while doing it. Ugh!!!

  8. When I lived in Colorado, people not only turned around in my drive at circle area, but one time helped themselves to my patio furniture on my porch–two iron chairs and a small mosaic table top. I never replaced them since I didn’t want to chain them down. I felt violated. Some have no values at all.

    • Oh that reminds me…last week when I came home from work I pulled in to find some middle-aged woman parked in my driveway and picking flowers from one of my flower beds. I went off like a NUT on her! How dare she! She then tried to play on my sympathy by stating she was picking them to place on her friend’s grave! WTF? Go to the grocery store & buy a bouquet for $5.00 instead of stealing my flowers you hose bag! Oh…I was NOT nice!

    • I had the same thing happen to me, Deb…Someone stole a statue of an Angel that had been sitting on my front porch for YEARS. It happened right before Christmas a few years ago and it upset me quite a bit. This was not some small figurine; it was at least 2′ tall. I can only think that a temporary driver for a delivery company had to do it since they are at my house often, if not daily. I don’t think anyone walking down the street would come to my door and swipe it then walk around carrying a statue. It still irks me! Mean people Suck and it is creepy too!

  9. I find it more and more annoying the people really do not give a flip about others any more. I find people becoming ruder by the day, it seems. Not sure why. Crazy stuff happening! I wonder if a Private Property sign would work better. Either way, Go get um, Shelly~

    • Oh…I do have a private property sign and a BEWARE BIG DOG sign out there. Doesn’t help. I am tired of it now. Hubbs is putting up a video camera so we can get a snapshot & plate numbers. About 80% of the time, it is locals not tourists.

  10. We used to live in the first house on a street and people used to also use our driveway as a turn around too! Very frustrating! My parents still live there and now I find people use it to sit there and make phone calls, put on make up, etc. They always look mad when I honk the horn for them top move out of MY parent’s drive way so I can get in. I think you have a great idea! Congrats to the winners!
