When I freeze our leftover ham I like to freeze it in 2-cup and 3-cup portions. Then when I make various recipes, I can thaw it out and add it in. It is a huge time-saver for me.
One of the recipes I like to make is my grandmother’s homemade ham pot pie. My family loves this stuff and it makes for a great hearty dinner or lunch. To go along with it, I always make a nice salad and some type of homemade bread or dinner rolls.
Grandma’s Homemade Ham Pot Pie Recipe
- 4 cups cooked ham (pulled apart into bite size chunks)
- 2 teaspoons of ham bouillon paste
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2-3 teaspoons parsley
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
- 1/4 cup finely chopped carrots
- 3 large potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 pkg. pot pie squares
- Fill a large pan with hot water and cook your pot pie squares for 5 minutes and then turn down the heat. Add in your fully-cooked ham, ham bouillon paste, salt, ground black pepper, parsley, onions, potatoes and carrots. Simmer this mixture over low heat for 45 to 60 minutes or until potatoes are done. Serve immediately.

I haven’t had much leftover ham lately. The family seems to eat every single bite and leave nothing but the bone!! Hoping they will see the benefit of how good something like this is
Very unique and interesting. I love freezing leftover ham, but I typically use it with beans. This would really be different and a great use of the ham. Sounds very comforting! We like pot pies but do chicken. This a great way to change it up. Enjoy!
I pinned this; it sounds really good, but I’ve never heard of Pot Pie Squares. Are they available pretty much everywhere? Where in the store would they be? Frozen?
Yeah they are just about every where. Look in the aisle with spaghetti noodles, elbows, bows, etc. Ours come in a bag and sit right beside the spaghetti noodles on a shelf.
I have never seen a recipe quite like this before. It looks really good, we will try it!!
Interesting recipe. Love the ingredients! Looks easy to make. And I love pot pies and this seems like a fantasic twist to it.
I’ve never seen pot pie squares either, or ham bullion. Looks interesting.
You mentioned 2 items here with which I am not familiar. I have never bought ham bouillon paste and didn’t know it was available. I have never heard of pot pie squares. In the photo they look like square noodles. This is another recipe which I shall want to try. When I make a ham I usually have leftovers which I freeze by portion size so that I can use them at a later time.
