Old Fashioned Egg Gravy Recipe

When I got married, I brought with me the recipes that I had grown up with. Being a Yankee from the mid west and of German decent, my recipes are a traditional meat and potatoes type of fare. My hubby is a Southern boy and he was raised on a lot different type of food than I was. We mashed it all together pretty well. One thing I had to do was learn to enjoy different southern style foods that I had never had before. My Mother-in-law shared some of her tried and true family favorites with us and this old fashioned Egg Gravy was one of them. Her Grandfather used to make this for them.

I have to say that when I heard what it was called, I knew it would NOT be something I wanted to try. But the first time I ate it, I was hooked! Think country gravy with eggs and bacon over biscuits and you are pretty close to what this dish is all about!

Like Jo-Ann – I have never heard of the egg gravy – nor seen it – which is a little surprising because my Mom’s father’s family were from Germany (born there) and I would have thought I’d at least know about it!

When I first saw the photo – I was somewhat taken aback at the unfamiliar “scene” – but the more I thought about it the more I appreciate that I love EGGS and use them to garnish/enhance/enrich all kinds of food – why not to enrich gravy? And the more I looked – the more yummy it looks. I’m definitely going to have to try this soon – just still figuring out what I’m going to try it on! Thanks!

I have never heard of this recipe before you posted it , but I am hooked. It is definitely one my whole family would enjoy – although our arteries might regret it. I suppose I could also try a healthier version with turkey bacon – but first this version of the recipe.

I am as southern as a butter bean, but I have never had egg gravy before. But after seeing the pics and reading the recipe I could definitely love this. It looks like one of those breakfast foods that we like to have for dinner! Thanks.

  4. Well, this is a new one for me! My first reaction was “ewwww” but then I thought about it and I’ve changed my mind to “mmmmm.” I’d have to make it with turkey bacon since I don’t eat pork, but I think this would be a big hit at my house. Thanks.

Wow! This sounds amazing! What a great way to start off the day or for dinner or a snack or just because! 🙂
You can’t go wrong with bacon and gravy. I hadn’t thought about adding eggs, but that would really make it a filling meal.

  6. I have to make this awesome recipe! I really like it. It has eggs, bacon and the gravy is on biscuits! Yummy! I will be making this recipe in the coming week and I know that my family will love it! Thanks for sharing.
