From Fleeting to Forever: Enjoying and Preserving Your Digital Photos and Videos

Ebook review: From Fleeting to Forever:
Enjoying and Preserving Your Digital Photos and Videos
by Greg Scoblete and Mike McEnaney

Photographs are moments in life that are captured and treasured for generations. Times have changed and what used to be shoeboxes under the bed or carefully placed photos in a leather-bound photo album have turned in to thousands of photos posted on Facebook, saved on our smartphones and sitting on our computer hard drives. I am an offender of not giving my photos the love that I once did. I have over 1700 photos on my iPhone alone. That is insane and embarrassing considering I’ve worked for three companies that make photo printers throughout my career. Those photos should be downloaded, sorted and printed. I used to be obsessed with printing my photos. Every memory was printed and framed or tucked away somewhere safe. There really are no excuses now, but I’m going to give you one. I got busy. We all get busy and lose sight of the amazing ways we can be preserving and giving our photos the attention they deserve.

This ebook just does that. From Fleeting to Forever gives you the right tools to make the most out of your memories. The authors have invested a great deal of time into this topic and spent the last decade immersed in the world of digital photography. They know their stuff and thankfully, for all of us, they are sharing it in this incredibly insightful and helpful little resource. The book is an easy and enjoyable read and has advice and tips on not only digitizing old photos and organizing new images on a memory card or computer, but it also provides insight into how to do more creative things with your photos and really gets you thinking about all the amazing ways you can transform a simple photo into something different and unique.

One of the things that is near and dear to my heart that the authors dedicated several chapters to is the photo print–an actual tangible print that can be held in your hands or literally, close to your heart. They provide tips on how to print your photos at home, where to go if you want someone else to print them, and they make recommendations on how to best make a photo book (along with multiple options to help find the right type for you). These experts also provide non-traditional options to consider when displaying photos. With the out-of-the-box ideas featured in this book, you can spark your creative side with inspiring ideas that truly make your photos masterpieces that can be displayed in your home. There are endless varieties of printing technologies and the ability to print on canvas, aluminum, or even on glass is an option for anyone to consider. This book takes you through the upsides, downsides and everything in between to really maximize your vision for your special memories and finally get those digital photos out of your computer and into the world.

Even as someone who knows digital photography fairly well, I learned many new things in this seven chapter book including how to preserve my memories that I’ve captured with my video camera and how to best take advantage of the cloud. I also learned that there people who are actual “personal photo organizers” that can come into your home and help you with the task if it’s too daunting for you. Seriously! How cool is that?

Whether you are like me and have a smartphone photo backlog the size of Texas or perhaps you don’t quite know how to share your photos online with your family and friends, this book takes you through the steps simply and even provides valuable insight into digital privacy and how to best protect yourself and your digital life. The From Fleeting to Forever ebook is only around $6.00 to download (at places like Amazon or wherever ebooks are sold) and in my opinion, is a tremendous guide to helping navigate the world of digital photography with engaging, expert advice. Not only that, there are countless ideas for crafting your favorite photos into gifts, and with the holiday season right around the corner, we can all use a little help to create those heartfelt special presents for the ones we love.

A very catchy title which grabbed my attention immediately. This sounds like a book that I shall need to better understand how to work with, save and/or print digital photos. Thanks for the information and the review.

  2. I download ebooks all the time to my Kindle and haven’t seen any like this. I could use some help in this area, especially with the cloud technology, which is still a mystery to me. Thanks for the review.

I really enjoyed this post. The sad thing of the digital age for me is that now we have images on our phones, on camera chips and posted online, but somewhere along the way it is not like those 28 images on film that we had printed anymore…

Love the title. Photos are more than just images on paper – they capture memories and moments. My daughter is always doing creative things with our photos – scrapbooking, turning them into painting prints, t-shirts… This book sounds like something she and I would both enjoy. I like that it is in-depth but user friendly and offers worthwhile tips.
