Urban Gardening for Dummies Book

I don’t live in a big city or metropolitan area even, but I did want to check out this book because my back yard is very small and I have been dying to have a garden of some sort. I live in a tract home and the lot is pretty small. Plus a pool takes up most of the space that I do have. I really want to be able to find some unique and different answers to how I can add growing space to my little areas that are available. Since Urban dwellers have similar issues, I thought this book would offer a ton of ideas and I was not wrong.

I would love to build some small beds and add some containers for fresh fruit trees and veggies so that I can reduce the cost of food and get as fresh as possible. My limited growing area has also limited my brain too. I needed fresh ideas for fresh food and Urban Gardening for Dummies is a great resource.

If you live in the city and have a small courtyard or balcony, or if your growing area is limited like mine, this book offers great small space gardening tips and techniques that will open your eyes to the possibilities of a bountiful garden.

Some of the ideas that the authors give you is everything you need to know about gardening which is treat for a novice like me. They cover topics like soil, seedlings, creation of your space, container gardening. They focus on types of containers, vertical gardening and offers cool suggestions for small space gardens. The book also helps with information on pest management, irrigation and even composting in small spaces.

If you are not into growing food, have no fears. The authors also have chapters on trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials. I love the suggestions on plants that work well in shade or sun so you have help choosing the right plants for your space. I have thought about using bulbs but never know much about them, but they cover that too!

Urban Gardening For Dummies is a fabulous fit for me and my small space. I have some great ideas that I am going to implement this season and see if I can start getting some growing areas in my back yard. I am very excited and I cannot wait!

We’ve been talking about growing some vegetables in our small section of yard. I definitely would love to look into this book. Anything to help defray the cost of produce in our Supermarkets is a plus. 🙂

This is a would love with Spring coming. I have always wanted to get into gardening. I never seemed to have the time or room to grow anything. It would give me fresh and organic vegetables which would reduce my spending at the store while being healthy. This could give me the knowledge and tips that I would need to be successful. Thank you

Hey, MD took my comment. I have never been able to grow a thing. Even half-way mature pants, I kill within a week or two. And seeds, well, they just don’t do a thing.
