Keeping the Kids Cool in the Summer Heat

Kiddie Pool FunWow, here in south central Pennsylvania we have been blasted with over 10 days in a row of temperatures being 90 degrees or higher. On top of the HEAT we have the high humidity which makes it feel even hotter, at times you can’t even breathe!

Yesterday we hit 106 and it was almost unbearable! You could only go outside for a few minutes before you couldn’t take it and had to go back inside. We had our Little G over for the afternoon so we had to keep her cool and pappy (my hubby) filled up her kiddie pool and she had some fun!

We only let her in it for 15 minutes at a time and would take her back inside for an hour. Even though the pool kept her cool, it was still hard to breathe comfortably in that heat and humidty. We gave her a ton of fluids and she enjoyed several freeze pops too. Keeping the kidlets hydrated and hydrating them often is important too!

Wee one didn’t like being cooped up inside for most of the day but as the adults, it was the best thing for her. We left her out in the kiddie pool 3 times and she was pretty upset each time when we got her out.

I would love to know what you do to keep your kids cool in the hot summertime heat? Any tricks? How do you keep them busy indoors when it’s too hot for them to go outdoors?

It is hard when they want to go outside and play and you know it is not safe. I have 8 granddaughters ranging from 10 on down. They too, don’t understand why they can only play out for such a short period. We have lots of pop sickles for them. We have lots of different things to keep them busy in doors. They would just rather be out playing with the baby chicks, baby kittens, collecting eggs or just plain swinging in the tree swings.
