My Charmed Life - By Author Beth Bernstein

Are you looking for a great book to read this summer? If so, I think you will appreciate this new book by author Beth Bernstein titled “My Charmed Life – a Memoir” available for purchase on July 3rd, 2012. The book’s ISBN is: 978-0-451-23693-7 with the suggested cover price of $15.00 USD.

Book Synopsis: When Beth Bernstein’s mother unexpectedly passed away, Beth’s life was forever changed, as she knew that she’d lost not only her best friend but also a big part of herself. In this heartwarming and moving memoir, Beth learns how to link together the platinum memories of the jewelry handed down to her by the woman who taught her how to love, overcome and most important, accessorize.

As a young girl, Beth learned that not all engagements come with a ring. The unconventional engagement watch that Beth’s father gave her mother, her mom’s post divorce transformation from wearing Jackie O pearls to donning love beads – each piece of jewelry represents an intimate memory, a reminder to rise above life’s challenges and enjoy its triumphs. And there are Beth’s own experiences with rocky romances, of the too many engagement rings she fell in love with and the too few men who could commit. She tells the story of these relationships with sparkles of hilarity and glimmers of hope, conjuring lost keepsakes and fiery moments – until she realizes that the brightest gems are the ones you give yourself, and finds freedom she never thought possible.

My Thoughts: I usually do not read memoirs but was drawn to this book after I had read the press release on it. The book has 21 chapters and all of the book’s chapters names are named after jewelry pieces. I love jewelry so I am thrilled to see that!

The author Beth Bernstein writes a lot about her memories of her mother and those memories tug at your heart strings. I am extremely close to my own mother so the bond she had with her mother really tugged at my own heart. I love how the author tells you about her rocky romances and how she went about searching for her own “band of gold”. I love how she explains all of her precious family connections throughout the book.

The book has 304 pages and is a very easy read and the stories flow nicely throughout the book. I love that I didn’t have to guess at anything as the author leaves no strings untied. It’s a very clever and beautifully written book that is funny at times, witty at times and at other times…can make you tear up. I really enjoyed reading this new book and now that I am done with it, I have passed the book onto my own mother to read. We give this book a huge two thumbs!Disclaimer: Shelly has personally reviewed the product listed above. Shelly has not received any monetary compensation for her review.
