It is Important to Get a Skin Exam Done Yearly

When I was a teenager and young adult, I didn’t protect myself from the damaging rays of the sun. Matter of fact, I rarely used sunblock and other protection, and often got sun burned. As we all know, that kind of thing can lead to an increase rate of developing certain types of skin cancer.

So today, I would like to know how many of you go to a dermatologist on a yearly basis for a skin check exam? I know for myself, I do go in yearly to get myself checked out because skin cancer runs extremely high in my family. Plus, I have an increased risk of developing skin cancer due to excessive sun exposure when I was younger.

Anyway, I was talking to my aunt Janice yesterday about all of this and was reminding her to go in to see a dermatologist to get herself checked out this spring. Auntie told me that she didn’t know of any dermatologists in her area, so I got online and found Four Points Dermatology and gave her their practice information. I really hope that my aunt Janice follows through and calls them up for an appointment to get an exam.

Getting a skin exam doesn’t hurt at all, a good doctor will just check out your skin from head to toe to see if anything looks suspicious. Last year I had a suspicious looking mole removed and luckily it came back normal. With that said, it scared me enough to make sure that I get in to see my dermatologist on a yearly basis for additional exams.

Thanks to my little skin care, my husband is now going to go get a skin exam too! He works out in the sun for 3 of the 4 seasons every year, so I know he is also at an exposed risk for developing some type of skin cancer. I am really proud of him for taking this step since he is not very fond of doctor’s offices, but he realizes the importance of getting himself checked on a yearly basis.

Thanks for reading my post today and please…get your skin checked on a regular basis and if you are going to be out in the sun this spring and summer, protect your skin with a good sunblock lotion or cream!
