COME HOME by Lisa Scottoline Book Review

When it comes to reading a great book, I am usually all over it. I love books and I have been an avid reader since I was 5. Lately, with my busy schedule it is hard to sit to relax and curl up with my favorite book so I have been getting audiobooks of my favorite authors so I can listen while I am working. It is great!

One author I love to read is Lisa Scottoline. I have reviewed other books from her and she has a new one coming on on Apr 10 and I am thrilled to tell you about. Here is a bit about the new release.

COME HOME by Lisa Scottoline AudioBook Cover
From the New York Times bestselling author of Save Me, Think Twice, and Look Again comes an explosive new novel about a woman who has to make the ultimate choice:

Should she help someone from her past at the expense of her future?

Jill Farrow is a typical suburban mom who has finally gotten her and her daughter’s lives back on track after a divorce. She loves being a pediatrician, is about to remarry, and her daughter, Megan, is a happily over-scheduled thirteen-year-old, juggling homework and the swim team.

But Jill’s life is turned upside down when her ex-stepdaughter Abby shows up and delivers shocking news: Jill’s ex-husband is dead. Abby insists that he was murdered and pleads with Jill to help find his killer. Jill reluctantly agrees to make a few inquiries and discovers that things don’t add up. As she digs deeper, her actions threaten to rip apart her new family, destroy their hard-earned happiness, and even endanger her own life. Yet Jill can’t turn her back on a child she loves and once called her own.

The very talented Maggi-Meg Reed narrates with suspenseful pacing and emotional conviction that bring all of the story’s thrilling action, puzzling mysteries, and compassionate emotions to life!

Come Home has the breakneck pacing of a thriller while also exploring the definition of motherhood, asking the questions: Do you ever stop being a mother? Can you ever have an ex-child? What are the limits to love of family?

I started listening to this story one rainy afternoon while working on a blog. The next thing I knew, it was 4 hours later, I had gotten hardly any work done and I was on the 4th disc of the set. LOL This story had me engrossed and wound me right up in it.

Lisa writes an emotional story that gets you right in the gut. You can totally relate to your characters and their life issues. This story has some lovely mystery and intrigue and yet it tells a story that is real. The emotions of a 13 years old are right on target. The step-daughters that are grown up but still need to be wanted, loved and needed. They feel they have no one to reach for but are struggling to become adults at the same time. Reaching out to an ex step-mom is risky at best. Can their hearts take any more loss?

I love the narrator as she has a voice for every character and does a great job reading the novel just like would be in real life with the characters talking to you. She really bring the story to life.

I love this book. It is real, emotional and humorous too. It is a great story to listen to or curl up in a comfy chair with the print version. A perfect vacation or weekend read! I know you will enjoy it. On Sale at major bookstores and online April 10th, 2012
