Jerky has been around for hundreds of years and while many people think that it is a “guy” thing, I know many women that love it, including me. It is a perfect item to carry with you for a protein snack and to curb those hunger pains in between meals. I love it for my son who eats at odd times due to swim practice. I know he is getting healthy snack food instead of junk snacks at the pool deck.
I was so excited to be able to try some jerky from an excellent company that specializes in all different types of meats. You can find Beef Jerky, Buffalo Jerky, Turkey Jerky and Exotic Jerky of all sorts and many more.
Mountain America Jerky sent us a nice selection of 7 different types of jerky to sample for you today. We received Beef, Beef Teriyaki, Beef Spicy, Venison Pepper, Wild Boar, Tibetan Yak, and Ostrich. They pack the jerky in these great vacuum sealed pouches so the freshness was sealed right in.
My hubby was super excited and wanted to be the official taste tester so I allowed him to have at it, although we all enjoyed sampling the different flavors. Wow. I really had no idea some of these would taste as good as they did. I’m kinda a chicken… LOL
We started with the Boar and this was one I thought would be weird. I can honestly say it was fabulous. I never woulda thunk it… The Yak, same thought… I was nervous about it but it had some great flavor!
Over several days we sampled them all. My son liked the Boar and Yak and Spicy Beef best. My hubby loved the Teriyaki, Boar and the Yak the best and my Fav’s were the Teriyaki, Spicy Beef and Boar. Wow! It was actually very hard to choose. The Venison was very good too but they all have wonderful subtle flavors. The spicy beef was spicy but good.
One thing to remember when eating several different types of jerky like we did, is not to mix one flavor after another as each one has a distinct taste and it can be lost if you are mixing it from meat to meat.
The exotic jerky was just as good as the traditional flavors and I am very impressed with it all! Especially knowing that this is handmade piece by piece, not made in a big factory somewhere.
I love that they only use pure ingredients. That means no nitrates, No MSG, no fillers. Just what I am looking for when buying for my family and I know it is important for yours too!
